Living in California currently. Only a junior in high school so it's probably a tad early lol but I wanna be a math teacher when I graduate from college so I've been thinking about where to live for that and I'm heavily considering Alaska. Been watching a ton of videos and reading up a lot and this was definitely one of the better videos I've seen on living in Alaska. Great video, great personality also; you made me smile a lot lol

Interior Alaska has low humidity and typically no wind in the winter, so it is fairly comfortable for humans...most runners run routinely all winter long.
It is cold, so road salt is not used and vehicles do not rust. Sugar snow easy to plow and the roads are dry most of the winter unlike Anchorage where the roads are icy and slippery and they use salt down there.

The official Fairbanks temperature is at the airport down near the Tanana River at 400 feet above sea level, at our house at 1, 000 feet elevation, it is often 10-20 degrees warmer than the official airport temperature.

Shortest day in Fairbanks in Dec 20 is 4 hours of visible light. The darkest nights is usually in October before there is snow on the ground.

Summers are perfect....warm and sunny, excellent gardening, hiking, canoeing, rafting, fishing, etc.
One problem is family and friends always want to visit in the summer!
People in Fairbanks are typically friendly and tolerant.

Used to live in Juneau for 21 years never did make it to Fairbanks North pole area. People here in the lower 48 states have a lot to learn about up there and the different areas of Alaska and it's good that people are putting videos out about Alaska

Okay, a few years late seeing this, but...Man, I miss Fairbanks. Living near the border in Texas now. I still miss Alaska. LOL. Ravens. We called them dumpster ducks in the winter. More than once we would see Ravens in the back of a truck some Cheechako put their groceries in and ran into somewhere. I also remember driving up the Steese Highway out of Fairbanks. It was -40 with heavy ice fog in town and as we drove up the highway we just passed into sunlight and -20. Heading back down you could see the nearly flat surface of the fog. Like passing through a layer into a different world of heavy fog and cold. People in the lower 48 can't believe it when I told them about the Moosequitos as we called them. Interior AK, is such a different world. Cold flats, permafrost, all that stuff. Love it. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.

Aww sweetie! Thank you for taking the time and energy from your day to educate us on some of the somewhat more funny quirks of living in AK! :) You made me smile! I have so many questions, but I'm highly discouraged from moving there due to finances. I'm currently disabled, and my husband only has a high school diploma.. so his experience is in manufacturing for medications and car parts. He can work forklifts, and if very detailed with his work. The other main issue is I live in SC. I've visited AK's southwest when I was 15yrs and have felt called to the far north since. I love snow and frostbite weather, despite where I currently live. SC is claimed to be the 5th cheapest state in the country, and so our pay is very low. Because of this factor, large amounts of people all over the country are moving here in droves right now, and the prices are skyrocketing without raise in pay. I believe any part of AK for my husband and I is just a dream now, however, is there some way my husband could possibly get a job in any part of AK at this point, and we could move there to get away from this city life? Packed cities are making my health decline worse, and neither of us have kids of family to miss down here. Is there any way we could save up when already in financial distress, and get a job there? I think I may know what you'll say, so I just want you to know I already understand it's a long shot. Thank you again for making me laugh a little on the video! (And you're right.. visited Ketchikan Those bears and moose are no joke :) )

Ravens love to sit on our roof and have a party at 2:00am... I don't know what I did to them.

Moose are common, bears not so much here in Fairbanks. I grew up in South East Alaska and remember grizzlies under the house commonly. Still good to keep bears as a possibility in mind.

Keep up the good work!

It's a good idea to get your car or truck squared away before winter. You'll need an engine block heater, transmission heater, oil pan heater and a trickle charger for your battery. Also, a good set of snow tires is highly recommended. You want to run full synthetic oil in your vehicle because it doesn't freeze solid like regular oil.

It's bitterly cold in the Winter. Below zero for highs and lows for weeks. Summers last few months.
