New 3er!! 7 Generations of 3 Series, bring us to todays video! THE 3 SERIES has been the best selling BMW since it’s debut in 1975. It’s a car that introduced us to the idea of a sporty small sedan, and since has irrefutably led the way in this segment.

As much a cornerstone of the Ultimate Driving Machine as any other BMW, today we take a look back at this history of the 3 Series before having some fun in the first exciting M Powered version, the M340i Xdrive!

The car has grown, 3.3 in longer, 0.6 in wider but as it’s based on the CLAR platform, it’s 50% more ridged thanks to use of high strength steel and aluminium and 55 kg lighter.

The grille is not as offensive as the new M3, I find it quite handsome. And the car is inundated with the hoffmeister kink tradition.

Like the M3 and M4, the 320d and M340i both available in either RWD or X-Drive! Giving customers choice.

My favourite part is the engine though: tStraight 6 B58 engine, already award winning, produced pros374 BHP, 500NM, 4.4 seconds. It’s attached to the 8 Speed Steptronic, which together with this epic engine makes for an awesome driving experience, wait to see on the driven. The X-Drive system is of course rear biased, and the car comes standard with the M Sport differential. There is variable sports steering but… well I’ll get to that later.

But will the package be enough to battle the likes of the C43 and Audi S4? Today we explore:

- Origins in New Class and 02 Series w/ Wilhelm Hofmeister
- E21, E30, E36, E46, E90, F30,
- The new G20
- B58 engine
- BMW M changes within the M340i
- Exterior details of new 3 Series
- Other spec and wheels
- Interior review
- Exhaust Sound
- Driving Review
- Conclusion

Up next on on RBR is the Cayenne GTS, a surprise from Maybach and MUCH MUCH More!! Subscribe to support us and see them first. :)

A damned impressive thing for a daily driver this M340i. Don’t like the name much, but in love with the engine. Shame about that steering, but it doesn’t detract from an overall awesome package.

But the M3... that’s what I really want to experience, especially the Xdrive variant! 😈 Soon.

I've been driving an M340i for about 9 months now and i love it. Perfect blend of fun and practicality.

I know the 1-8 buttons look antiquated and bad but they are super useful. In a car lots of functions are often hidden behind menus that different owners will want quick access to. For example you can set one to immediately navigate you home. Another can be set to bring you immediately to sport displays. You can set them for buttons to change display, HUD, or audio system settings. IMO they are some of the most useful parts on bmws interior.

One thing I love about this BMW, it does not feel like you are buying an inferior car to, say the 5 series, 7 series and 8 series. It just feels like you are buying a smaller car. And for some of us who love smaller cars, this is awesome

This 340i looks prettier than the M440i

Every time I watch these videos I am amazed by the effects. Super realistic! How are they done? Very impressive and they add so much to what could be just ‘another YouTube car video’

I love the fact this car has buttons, yes buttons! No over sized screen with menus galore taking 4 swipes to change radio station. Oh and the 375 bhp B58 engine is pretty cool too.

3D view: press the physical button “P with 3 beacons” that’s the PDC button. Tilt iDrive controller to the left and select 3D view..

About shortcut numbers. BMW are one of the few car makers that make actual physical buttons for climate and radio. They may look outdated but you can feel them. * cough, cough * Looking at you Audi

Such a good looking car!Why didn’t they go for this car’s front end for the new M3?! The front end of new M3 looks hideous to say the least!!

This is slowly becoming my favourite 3 Series of all time.

Had a hard time trying to activate the surround view in my car as well 😂 later figured that you need to press the “automated parking” button below the “surround cameras” button, which is very counterintuitive. Overall this car has been a dream. Fantastic daily driver with the right amount of fun.

Something that helps reduce the numbness of the steering is to remove run flat tyres and put better springs on. The steering is still numb, but you can feel the road through the chassis and you can use that to compensate.

BMW built the G20 so well because they knew all along that they were going to fck up the G80

Car reviewers and their “steering feel.” Glad I’m pleb enough for this car to feel as brilliant to me as it does. I find nothing wrong with it.

Those shortcuts buttons are ingenious and super useful. I hope they don't get rid of them anytime soon. They just need to spruce them up a bit so they don't look as dated but definitely should keep them there.
