What a great idea. I've never seen that little trick with the pillow. Very useful when you're not always sleeping in the same bed.

Pillow trick is wise. Definitely times I could have used that trick!

Oddly my bed transfer is likely my most difficult. Probably because it is so high and soft with a 4 inch memory foam topper. Hard surfaces are definitely easier to transfer to and from. Then again, I'm 6'5", which makes everything a little more difficult. I'm in shape, but all legs. I also own a coup and use that pillow trick with it while getting out. It's several inches lower than my chair and I stuff a large pillow between the seat and my chair to get out. It took days to learn how to do that one. That's the one transfer I often don't make, but the pillow allows me to reset and try again. I also keep a board with some grip take on one side in the car. If I tire myself out trying, I can use the board and slowly work myself into my chair. Getting back in the car is much easier. Yes, I need a van, but vehicle prices are insane right now.

Too funny, my legs wander at night also. I’ve woken up several mornings with my left leg on the floor of the right side of the bed. Yes my right leg is still in the bed, and the left leg just jumps over it. Amazing I never wake up🤣

You are a genius!! What made you think of using a pillow to transfer with? What other tricks have you come up with?

Cool the way you transfer yourself to bed from a Wheelchair. That is the way to do it.

Any thoughts for a para that had to have a girdlestone operation? I no longer have my hip joint so my leg is dead weight. I used to jump in and out of bed just like that and have been trying to cross my leg over the other first to help pick it up but am unable to get it to work. I don't like losing my independence like that. It's driving me crazy not to be able to do a simple transfer anymore.

One thing people with big feet should do is take one foot off the footplate before transferring. If I don't, my feet (size US 12) and lower legs get stuck on the chair and twisted, which can break weak para bones.

Why don't you use a slide board?
Your legs must not be spastic?
What if the pillow gave out, as you were transferring?
