I just want to provide a better solution for this in 2023:
1. make a BPI with 2 events (start and end trails)
2. Create a Notification state and enable the start and end state overides.
3. In each, send a message to the pawn owner while using the mesh as a reference for start/stop
4. Add the BPI to your character and compile
5. use the EVENT Start and EVENT stop interface messages and then control it from there.

It's not as clear cut as using the animation notification but at the same time, you can use the same notifies for different effects and control it all in 1 place instead of several places.

Awesome stuff, really easy to set up! One request from me would be getting some more plain trails in there, basically just white trails to emphasize the weapon swinging. The current ones are awesome, but very fantastical, so it would be great to see some more trails.

A very very common oversight that people make with UE tutorials is not being very clear what/where they are clicking. At around 30 seconds, you say "ok. Pick a trail" and you click somewhere and get a dialog that some people will recognize and others won't. Those who don't know what you just clicked will have to back up, find your mouse cursor and watch it, and hope they can transpose that on their UE version and layout. Not trying to be an *hole. It's just a tip. One of the things that separates really good tutorials from the pack is talking through what is being done very clearly.
Edit: Just rewatched it, and it's actually worse than I thought. I didn't pay much attention before because I'm familiar enough to know that you opened the trail effect. The second time, I noticed that it looks like you have your content browser open in another window. You should definitely never do anything off screen in a tutorial.

I wouldn't bother... They usually look nasty.. The only trails that don't are refraction trails...
