While most people know the world’s two big commercial aircraft manufacturers, how many major engine makers would you be able to name off the top of your head?

Thanks for the video. A bit of feedback: the music is way too loud in this video in comparison to the narrator's vocals volume.

Super focused video - I'm a jet mechanic from way back and really enjoyed the overview of the major turbofan manufacturers - I'm familiar with PW so they are definitely my favorite

My favourite has to be the Rolls Royce RB211.

In my first interview for a job with a commercial airline, I was told "if we want a light bulb, we'll call GE, if we want a luxury car we'll call Rolls-Royce, but if we want a jet engine we call Pratt & Whitney". LOL. I've been partial to them because the planes I worked on in the Navy had P&W engines.

What is listed here is the set of Engine designers, who do manufacturing too. Many more manufacturers are there around the world, who do their job after receiving design drawings - so as to make them under license.
A significant omission here, is the information on Russian Engine designers & manufacturers.

I worked on the assembly floor at P&WA for 1 1/2 years in the late 1970s. It was a good job but not for me. I was an avionics technician in the military and went to work in electronics and communications and probably flew on jets that had engines I helped assemble. I worked mainly assembling JT-8s, but did some work on the JT-9 including a tear down after test. I moved to Alaska after I left there and I remember many of the engines went to airlines there as this was in the build paper work. Different airlines put different accessories on the engine.

Was RR’s engine mentioned that will now power the B52?

Fun fact Rolls Royce does not only build jet/turbine engines.
It also owns now the worldfamous and historic Maybach engine Plant in Germany.
Maybach was one of the 3 ICE pioneer engineers (Daimler / Otto / Maybach) who developed and lay the ground work for ALL manufacturers who build ICE engines today.
MTU Builds marine, military and commercial Piston engines.
Rolls Royce engines power all forms of transport form Submarines till Aircraft.

GE also making engines for military use, as well P&W, RR used to but nowadays i think no more. For more power- thrust P&W, GE excel in helicopter - where torque is needed. That's my opinion

There is a mistake
The Trent 600- was to power future B747-400X
The Trent 800- B777-200

Good to know is that the Rolls Royce jet engine and luxury car companies are no longer affiliated.

My favorites were all of them
GE Aerospace (CF6, GE90, GENx, GE9X, GP7000 and LEAP)
Pratt and Whitney (JT8D, PW1000G, PW2000, PW4000, V2500 and GP7000)
Rolls-Royce (any members of the Trent Family)

They're all great in their own share and expertise!

Luckily enough to handle their products that are installed in the aircraft commercial world!

From engine servicing to engine change. Amazing works of art that makes efficiency in air travel. Possible!

Anyone else heard the rumor that (per sources) the GE-90 actually produced nearly 130k-lbf on a few occasions during testing & inspections?? Just curious. ✈️ 😉✌️

Actually IAE is the owner of the PW1100-Program of the A320neo. Even if it has the Name „PW“, it has the same IAE Parners and in all official documents IAE is named as the OEM!
