Entering The World’s Largest City You’ve Never Heard Of

I made it to Chongqing, China!! With a population of 36 million (yes, you read that right – 36 million!), Chongqing is a municipality that feels more like its own country. This city is massive and chaotic with futuristic skyscrapers and bustling street markets. It’s one of the most affordable big cities in the world and there’s something here for everyone to explore.

In this old-school travel vlog, I’ll take you on an adventure through the heart of Chongqing to meet the locals, try some of the spiciest food (hot pot, anyone?), and uncover the wacky culture that makes Chongqing such a unique destination.

What really stood out to me about Chongqing is how it has all the energy and conveniences of a place like Hong Kong, but with almost ZERO tourists. The culture shock here is real, the people are incredibly kind, and the vibe is unlike any other city I’ve experienced in my travels to all 197 countries.

I hope you enjoy the video, and please comment below with your thoughts! :)

Drew talking to his camera expressing how sad it looked that everyone else was looking at their cameras on the beach was kind of funny ngl, seems like all of y'all are content creators to be fair lol

I'm an American who used to live in China. Chongqing was easily one of, if not my favorite cities in China and possibly the world too. The food was insanely delicious, the skyline is among the best of any city in the world, and the vibes are just off the charts cool, there is just something about the energy there that's awesome. And somehow despite all of that almost none of my friends have any clue what Chongqing is, they didn't even know it existed. And when I was there, I would go days at a time without seeing a single other foreigner, it was so surreal being in a city that massive and it it somehow also feeling like a secret to people outside of China.

I’ve seen many clips of cities in China, but this one is definitely one of the most impressive! The video itself is stunning, the girl giving the tour is fantastic, and of course, you (Drew) really brought everything together.

It was the perfect combo of amazingness!

There’s so many cities in China that has more stuff than most of us can imagine to eat and buy and see, and from experience as a white foreigner the people are very friendly. I love your videos ❤

I remember when I was a kid in school and learning how big (and important) NYC was.
Then when I was older, I discovered that China has a billion+ population and has multiple cities that are as big or bigger than NYC.
Crazy!

As SKorean, I find Chinese people so friendly, so hospitable, and welcoming, I was planning my first out of country trip to Tokyo Japan, but this video changed everything.

For your information, Chongqing was the temporary capital of China during WW2 because at that time the official capital, Nanjing was occupied by Japan.

Chongqing is such an incredible and unique city. Thank you for introducing this city to me Drew. My favorite part was the pandas and their cuisine.

What I admire about China is their commitment to leaving spaces open for leisure activities. Parks and squares are seemingly everywhere.

In wintertime in China, it is the best time to experience ice and cold in Harbin. That is the city truly rare foreigners ever heard of.

Thanks for watching! And just to clear something up - for those who think Tokyo is the largest city in the world - think again 😀 The Chongqing municipality is the largest city when it comes to area at an impressive 5, 472 square kilometers (2x the side of Tokyo). In terms of population, you will find conflicting sources online but both cities/urban areas have approximately 33-36 million residents. And although Tokyo is very densely populated, it doesn’t come close to Chongqing’s sheer scale - trust me! If you ever get the chance to visit Chongqing, it’ll really blow your mind! My team and I worked hard on this video for 4 weeks and we hope you enjoyed learning about this unique megacity 🇨🇳🔥
