GAY 80's HORROR MOVIE: Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker

A quick recommendation for the 1981 Horror Movie BUTCHER BAKER NIGHTMARE MAKER, which has queer or gay aspects in the movie.

What a blast from the past! Jimmy McNichol was a Tiger Beat / Sixteen Magazine heart throb back in the late 1970's early 1980s. Jimmy and his sister Kristy McNichol were both well known.  The girl playing his girlfriend in this, Julia Duffy, went on to star in the 80s TV show "Newhart". Eddie is played by Bill Paxton who went on to star in a lot of stuff.  To top it off, the movie is directed by William Asher who directed the iconic 1960s sitcom "Bewitched"

What I found interesting wasn't just the gay character, but the bigoted character. The story never argues that he has any good intentions, he violates the teen characters in his quest to punish "deviants", and he's just as much the antagonist as the aunt. He even mentions children being molested but it's obvious he doesn't care about the kids, he just wants to hurt Tom. The story makes it clear that he isn't doing this to help people - he enjoys hurting the people he's hurting. It sends a clear message about bigotry

In the same way the aunt's care for her Billy is covering her true intentions, his badge and moral righteousness covers his. In the end, both hurt children under the guise of caring for them
