Always classy, always a gentleman both in life and music. Here is my story with Al. About 20 years ago, in Hollywood, Al had a concert at the Knitting Factory. There was a tiny sentence in LA Times, back page, I don't even know how I noticed it-- "Al Di Meola in concert."Went there with family and friends. It was my birthday. There were 2 tables reserved at the very front-- one had a sign "Stanley Clark"-- reserved. The latter did not attend the concert for whatever reason. After a couple of shots I took my TQ glass and moved to the very front. I am not S. Clark, but this table should not remain empty. The couple occupying the table next to Clark's were in their early 40's, handsome, dressed in expensive designer clothes, wearing $10000 watches. The man looked at me with his destructive glance, "How dare you?" I read his look. I felt it. S. Clark's table was 7 feet away from the stage. "Maestro, how about Casino?" came out of my mouth unexpectedly. Al looked at me, did not say anything, continued his music with a lovely tune. The couple next to me turned their heads and the destructive glance penetrated my head, my heart, and my soul. I felt tiny, embarrassed, ashamed. The TQ shot didn't help either. After a couple of brilliant performances Al stood up, giving the sign that the performance was to be over. My evening was completely destroyed, I thought. Not yet-- Al's ominous smile captured me. Al approached the edge of the stage, pointed at me and... "And now, for this young man, we will play the Casino." The "expensive" couple stood up and turned to my direction. They were applauding... THEY WERE APPLAUDING ME, as if I was going to play the tune. At the end, Al invited me to the back stage and we had a lovely chat in the dressing room. So humble, so sophisticated but yet-- down to earth man. I will never forget the most special birthday of my life, due to Al's chivalrous treatment. And yes, he opened a bottle of wine when he learned it was my birthday. Always classy, always a gentleman. THANK YOU, AL, for the precious gift, and thank you for all the music coming from the parallel universe that you have created singlehandedly. Perhaps too long of a story? But t'was worth it, wasn't it?

Al, I will never forget the concert back in 1981 when you were playing with Paco & John.
My Friend and I were inspiring guitar players and you were our GOD of Guitar. I remember coming out of that concert in Toronto and my friend saying to me " I think I will go back to Montreal and go to school and become an account. How AM I ever going to be a Guitar player at this level ". He became a composer and finally worked with you on a song. His name RICHARD FORTIN. You are and will be my guitar GOD forever. Thank you!.

Great formation of three percussionists! I'm not joking, Mr. Di Meola said a couple of times that he is a percussionist too, only here his percussion instrument is called guitar. It's a pity I don't see a tour date in Georgia.
