The mandela virus is actually based of the analog horror series, the mandela catalog. "It is not worth the risk" is a term that appears in the series in recurring instances. The jumpscares are alternates, alternates cause people to k*ll themselves by infecting then with M.A.D or metaphysical awareness disorder by telling them about their position in the universe which is too difficult for them to comprehend and makes them go mad .
