The mother of my best friend in the late '60s drove a '68 Charger 440. Absolutely crazy power, without the matching suspension, tires, brakes, etc. to make them sane. She was a conservative driver, but would still spin tires when leaving lights, without trying. It was great fun.

My Dad sold my brother in law a 1969 Charger RT with a 440 magnum. I can remember going down the highway at 157mph watching the metal hood flex and saying what if we have a tire blow out ? Then he decided to slow down thank GOD. LOL

I had a 1969 GTO. 400 Ram Air IV Muncie M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed. Tuned by “Mr Pontiac” Nunzi Romano of Nunzi’s Automotive Brooklyn NY. The only car faster down the 1/4 mile was my 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 454 Cowl Induction, M22 4-speed. Tuned by Joel Rosen of Motion Performance Baldwin Long Island NY.

What the younger folks don't know is that these muscle cars could be purchased for well under $10, 000 dollars! The junk that is being sold today as muscle cars are going for 5, 6, or 7 times that of those machines. And what do you get for kind of money? Fiberglass all the way around in some cases, not a hint of chromed metal, a donut for a spare tire, low compression motors....etc. In 1965 you could buy a Pontiac GTO, 389 motor with 4 barrel carb, automatic transmission, a real spare tire, plenty of chrome, no fiberglass bumpers, and plenty of room for 6 adults...all for well under $5 grand. Now that was a car!

had lots of muscle cars back in the 70's --the 69 camaro Z/28 was my favorite, followed by what some don't consider a muscle car was the mid years corvette--63 thru 67--best styling ever
