Bentley is set to conclude the production of its iconic 12-cylinder petrol engine, the W12, in April 2024. By then, over 100,000 examples of this legendary engine will have been meticulously handcrafted at Bentley's Crewe factory.

This decision is part of Bentley's commitment to a sustainable future outlined in its Beyond100 strategy, aiming for a fully electrified model lineup by the beginning of the next decade, with zero fleet average emissions. The introduction of hybrid models like the Bentayga and Flying Spur Hybrid is already underway, exceeding initial demand projections. Once W12 production ceases, Bentley's entire model range will offer hybrid powertrain options.

However, Bentley isn't bidding farewell to the W12 quietly. The development of the most potent version of the W12 has just concluded. This ultimate iteration, powering only 18 examples of the Bentley Batur handcrafted by Mulliner, boasts 750 PS and 1,000 Nm of torque, with a torque plateau typical of Bentley engines.

Adrian Hallmark, Bentley's chairman and chief executive, acknowledges the significant contribution of the W12 to the brand's journey over the past two decades. Despite retiring the W12, Bentley aims to celebrate its legacy by offering the most powerful version ever created.

Check out the assembly process of the Bentley W12 engine in this captivating video! Whether you're a Bentley enthusiast or simply fascinated by engine production, this video offers valuable insights. Witness how the Bentley powertrain and drivetrain are meticulously crafted using CNC manufacturing techniques. From the design phase to the final assembly, delve into the intricacies of building this remarkable engine. Join us as we explore the production assembly of Bentley's latest W12 engine, powering iconic luxury cars like the Bentley Continental, Bentayga, and Mulsanne.

The highly durable and reliable uprated engine will equip the Bentley Batur, the most powerful road-going Bentley to date. While all Batur models are sold, a limited number of the 659 PS version of the W12 engine are available for ordering in Speed versions of Continental GT, Bentayga, and Flying Spur, as well as Continental GT Mulliner and Flying Spur Mulliner.

Bentley plans to retrain and redeploy all 30 skilled craftspeople who hand-assemble and test each W12 engine. The W12 engine production facility will be repurposed to accommodate the assembly of engines for plug-in hybrid models.

Since its inception in 2003, Bentley's engineering team has continually enhanced the W12's performance in terms of power, torque, emissions, and refinement. Over two decades, power has increased by 37%, torque by 54%, and emissions have been reduced by 25%. The latest version of the W12, introduced with the Bentayga in 2015, features advanced technologies such as cylinder deactivation, direct and port injection, and twin-scroll turbos.

Every W12 engine undergoes a meticulous hand-building process lasting over 6.5 hours, followed by an hour-long sophisticated test regime using three specialist diagnostic machines. Additionally, one engine per week is subjected to an extended test cycle and fully inspected after disassembly.

Before celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the W12 engine facility will have delivered over 105,000 engines, leaving behind a rich legacy in Bentley's history.

Ajoj (Hi). Please change the title of this video as it is misleading. This is a VW engine designed for a Bentley and not a Bentley engine. In addition, the same engine is also in the Bugatti with more cylinders and basically both engines are based on the VR6 that was in the Golf 3. And the fact that they assemble it in the United Kingdom of Great Britain does not change anything.

I was surprised to see the Mulsanne model in this presentation which went out of production in 2020 and never had the W12 engine 🤔
