Kids shows like that are actually a good strategy because they’re designed to help with children developing language skills.

From a linguist: A 6 year old has been working full time to understand language for 6 years, while receiving constant praise for their efforts. You're doing alright

6-year-olds are pretty fluent, so she's doing fine.

My first years in Germany, all I watched was children's shows! 😂 But it paid off!! They really helped 😄

I LOVE children's content to learn a new language. People speak slowly, enunciate the words properly and the books are easy to read, too.
Gut gemacht German boyfriend!

My German host father was an avid comic book collector and I read his whole collection. It was SO helpful for learning German.

"I've been studying for a year and I only have an eight-year-old's grasp of the language!"

Yeah, how long do you think it took the eight-year-old?

This is actually incredibly wholesome. I remember using launguage apps to help my Spanish and I thought I was going nowhere but I realized I was picking up on small bits of conversations I would hear. It’s always great motivation when you find yourself understanding what they say

I teach Italian to foreign students and I use clips from children’s programs all the time! They often speak slowly, enunciate properly, and use a lot of repetition! They’re great!

My Spanish progression was slow, even after living a decade with native speakers.

Enter my daughter followed by nursery rhymes and children’s programming. My confidence and ability to speak progressed more in 3 years than a decade (almost 2 decades if you consider school lessons). Lots of the words it turned out were deep in my brain but children’s programming taught me to access and use it 😂

Watching kids' shows and reading kids' books is an excellent way to building up your language skills. I always recommend it to my lower level students because it is easier to understand and absorb, and when they realize they can follow a conversation or episode, it builds up their confidence.

Progress is progress! Onwards to fluency!

She is awesome in moving and learning a third language - and the support you gave her in this video is exactly what she needed! You're quite awesome yourself!

Love the videos you both make together! Thank you for doing so!

As a former English teacher and current German learner, I can assure you that literature of any kind designed for children is a great tool in learning of any language. Keep going! 😊

She is as adorable as a 6 year old so it doesn't really matter and she have her old neighborhood to help her with it!

I don't think she would mind. The fact that, she understood all of it, proves that, her German is improving. Everyone has to start somewhere and I'm sure you helped her a lot. Both of you are blessed to have each other... I enjoy watching your videos.. Keep it up. ❤❤❤

Tip: always turn on the German captions (subtitles), whenever they are available. Read along with what you're hearing and the language will get into your brain both ways at once. This helps with focus and mental processing, and is an easy way to get more exposure to the spelling of words and what they sound like.

Doesnt matter the skill level at which she understands, just the fact that she is making progress. Any progress is worth celebrating ❤️
