10 Things I've had for 10 Years
Taking a look at my wardrobe I realized how many pieces I've had for over a decade. Which is great because it really speaks to the quality of the pieces that I've chosen. So for today's episode I'm sharing 10 of those pieces.

I love that a lot of the pieces you’ve kept for a long time are fast fashion. Many people think you need to purge your wardrobe of fast fashion brands in order to be “sustainable” but that couldn’t be more untrue! Wearing our clothes for as long as possible—regardless of where they came from—is always the most environmentally friendly thing to do 👏

I have a white denim polka dot circle skirt that I made 35 years ago! I got the fabric at Krauss dept. store ( no longer there) on Canal St. in New Orleans. It continues to be a summer staple! 🙂🙏🏼❤️

Emily u have impeccable taste and not only in clothing. Luv your amazing new home.
Do any of your friends or family dress as stylishly as u!
Hard to believe the beautiful duster and coat are from H & M. Unfortunately their fabrics today are nothing like they were 10 yrs + ago.
Same applies to many shops I no longer buy from - cheap quality fabrics.
Fabulous video
Thank u

I didn't have much money for about two decades for clothes (my 30s to 40s). Whenever I had a reasonable amount, I would try and wait for the sales and buy good quality. I lived and worked in jeans, t-shirts and jumpers, often charity shop finds (the children had new clothes because they grew!). So when I bought new and more expensive things, I got what I fell in love with. Some were lucky chances - I have a dress, skirt and blouse from the same range that were £150.00 each and got them right at the end of sale for £50.00 each. They are lined cotton net, all cotton, and embroidered with flowers. Very stunning but easy to wear smart and casual. Still going strong 22 years later and still get compliments. I don't wear them every day, maybe each piece about 10 times a year. I still have two coats from 2006 which I love, a pair of very good quality charity shop jeans from 20 years ago (that style has been back in a few times). Most of my wardrobe is at least 5 years old. I even have some things I can still wear from 30 years ago, still love them, though they are not for everyday wear.

Keep what you love. It will come back in style, but if you chuck it, you will pay three times more for half the quality or less. My daughter moans at me that I didn't keep my 80's clothes after she saw photos, but I moved around, abroad for a decade, and couldn't keep a lot.

I had a fire in my house 15 years ago. Before that, I had clothing that was from the 70's, 80's & 90's. If you love high quality items, don't let go.

Hi Emily. Find a good seamstress or better yet learn some basic stitches for garment repair. It's amazing how long you can keep something if you are proactive. I wore a completely hard made wardrobe for almost a decade. When you love something it's worth the effort.
You are charming and I love that you share love of fashion not fast fashion

My weight has changed up and down too drastically in the last ten years for me to have anything that old, unfortunately. I wish I could still have things that I loved and fit me way back when. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wonderful to see how you keep special clothes for such a long time. I buy good quality items that will last. I find it difficult to replace them. Things change and not always are as good as the original. Thanks again for your lovely videos.

I really enjoyed this. I had a pair of socks that I’ve never been able to find again for 20 yrs. They were the perfect thickness.

Emily, greetings from New Zealand.
I was hoping you would mention your first peice (Houndstooth cardi)
I fell in ❤ with it in one of your videos.
So ended up sewing my rock it, and get so many compliments.

Very impressed with this video, on the theme of caring for cherished clothes, and wearing them for years. Distinctly refreshing, and practical, compared with the general impression in so many style videos, of endless consumption.
Well pivoted, Emily!

I'm so glad I'm not the only person who keeps favorite pieces forever. I have a bright turquoise blue silk sleeveless sheath dress and jacket I purchased for a Carribean cruise 20 yrs ago. It was $500 and turquoise is my favorite color. Because it's a classic style I can pull it out for graduations, weddings, engagement and anniversary parties and still love how it makes me feel. I always get compliments because it looks as good as the day I bought it. I wear it, dry clean it, and hang it back up until another engraved invitation arrives at my door. I've cleaned out my closet when I let my hair go grey during pandemic. Some colors wash me out now, pale skin & grey hair. But all of my blues work. I've kept all my navy, denim blue, sky blue, pale blue, aqua, turquoise and teal tops, sweaters, dresses and shoes. Now, trying to be a minimalist and walking away from a beautiful blue blouse is difficult but I'm doing it. Have you noticed white shirts don't last? I have a couple white silk blouses, a couple white cotton shirts, 2 long sleeve white tees and 5 short sleeve white tees. They don't seem to endure. I don't know if it's because I wear them frequently, or launder too often. But I wish you would go in search of some good thick white tees (can't see thru) and share on your channel. I'm a single Mom, I can't afford $80 for a good tee, but I layer them under EVERYTHING. 🙂

With the onset of spring, I would love to see your 10 most colorful pieces. This will sound bata$$bonkers but I have clothing that I nabbed from my mom and grandmother (I took them in my 20’s and I am 50).

I’m really curious about how you keep your sneakers in great shape for so long! Do you already have a video about that? And if not, would you ever make one? ☺️

I have a lair of leggings from 5th grade. The elastic waist band is stretched out but Im determined to have it replaced bc they still fit. Zero holes, not stretched out anywhere else. They have to be the most durable pair of leggings ever. They were a little big in 5th grade so now they fit well.
