World swimming governing body votes to effectively ban trans women from competition

FINA, the world's swimming governing body, voted on a policy that effectively bans trans women from competing in women's races. The policy says only transgender women who transition before age 12 can compete in women's events.

FINA made the right choice. It was a case of lose a few trans swimmers or lose all womens swimming. Thomas’s name needs to be scrubbed from the womens swimming record books and the titles be given to the women who won.

transgender confusions:
*transgender ≠ intersex

* hormone levels are irrelevant, what matters is what hormones do to the body, especially during puberty when hormones do most of their work on the body's morphology and function

* women's sport is really female sport, they just didn't think it was necessary to say so in the mid 20th c.

* a few athletes can have a disproportionate impact on a sport; tournaments are a sorting algorithm that select for "selfish genes" (including mentality) and by winning certain players change the very character of the sport, at large, since every other athlete will have to change their game to address the style of the dominant player, the dominant player thus decides how the sport is played until they stop entering tournaments

* tournaments WILL select for "selfish genes" despite the select gene pool's relationship to a larger demographic, in other words tournaments will select for transgender athletes even though transgender people only account for less than 1% of the overall human population

* fairness is a social construct, hence society is deciding democratically that it is unfair for males against females, especially in spaces created specifically for female athletes to compete with similar body types; and society is doing so by referring to the scientific literature on the effects of puberty on the human body

* debating "what is a woman?" is irrelevant to the issues raised by transgender athletes to the first principles of female sport and the rationale for female sport

* in our society sports for young people helps encourage a healthy lifestyle and parents don't want their children discouraged from participating by bullies; in our society sports for adults is a form of entertainment, and no one wants to cheer on a bully

* "male" sport is already open category, some transgender athletes are just choosing not to participate in these spaces; unlike female sports, "male" sport was not created by legislation

As a trans person, that expectation of the athletes needing to transition before the age of 12 is very unrealistic. It would be way safer and more effective to give other hormones and surgeries when puberty is finished. People need to get over the fact that there are people who feel different things and have to go through other struggles in their lives.
