Canadian wildfire smoke chokes eastern USA

Millions of people in the east of the United States have been told to stay indoors or wear masks as smoke from hundreds of Canadian wildfires makes breathing hazardous.

New York and Philadelphia are being smothered by the smoke and a Pride event scheduled at the White House tonight has had to be cancelled.

Health warnings are expected to be in place until the end of the week.

It's very sad that all this smoke has made its way to your region. Here our forests are burning dangerously, people are being evacuated and have to leave their homes, their villages, a pregnant woman has given birth on the evacuation route. The situation is apocalyptic

I have lived in NY/NJ region my entire life (I'm pushing 50) and I've never seen it look as bad as it did yesterday. We've had haze from wildfires before but never like this. Yesterday (Wednesday) was the worst, today was much better. Our air quality index was 484 yesterday, the max is 500. Today it was in the 200 range. We had for worst air quality in the world yesterday. Thankfully, the wind will shift for the next few days.

I've never seen wild fire smoke travel that far and it normally doesn't hang that low to the ground like fog. And

Such rich countries and with such huge fires one or two helicopters to put out fires instead of huge fleet. Pathetic how politicians and billionaires care about our land. They should lose their property in these fires, then maybe things will change for the better. We only have one Earth.
