Thanks to Brian Lilley for identifying the moment in 2017 when MP Jim Eglinsky questioned what can be done to protect Jasper 7 years ago.

Dear Canadians,
I saw and heard about a wildfire in Jasper park.
Your country is very very beautiful.
There are wonderful national parks, lakes and amazing places in Canada.
Canada is a treasure on the wordl.
I wish you to succeed in controlling the forest fires.
It is a tragedy to lose your own houses.
I feel for you, I know how it feels to lose a house.
I wish you the best in Canada.
The love must to win

Greetings from Europe
Eva

This is a big tragedy for all the citizens of Jasper town. The people there are strong. They will rebuild the damaged town. I wish all the best for you and I stay with you in these heavy times after this horrible wildfire! Greetings from Germany!

I'm glad that I took my son skiing there many times over the last couple years. Just as my mother did with me.
I'm glad I took my phillipina wife there for our honeymoon last summer. We will always cherish our memories of Jasper. God bless Canada.❤🫎🍁

I am heartbroken. I am praying with the people of Jasper. My family and I have beautiful memory of Jasper, we visit almost every year as we are from Alberta. I pray that the town and its people will rise again and we are angry that this devastation is preventable. I don't know how these politicians can sleep at night.

So very sad at the loss of such a historic and beautiful place from poor management of the forests while blaming climate change. There is no excuse for this. Proper forest managment, fire breaks, controlled burns of bug infested material, trails and pathways to allow access for fire crews and the proper number of water bombers is key. Preventative strategies are out there. Prayers and condolences to the people of Jasper on your devastating loss. The poor forest animals, I hope they made it to safety. Truly heartbroken as I look over my old pictures and happy memories of visiting Jasper as a child with my parents. It was one of my dad's favourite places that he couldn't wait to share with us kids to show us the amazing the beauty of western Canada.

And where is Trudeau during all this vacationing in Tofino not caring about what we as Canadians are going through in a day to day basis

Decades of forest neglect, greenies not allowing cleanup of deadfall from pine beetle infestation, denying controlled burns, and constant fire suppression lead to this tragedy. 100 metre flames moving at 6-10 Kmh. No surprise that air support could not be provided. No use finger pointing, there is more than enough blame to go around.

Was planning a trip there after 20 years. I'll be long gone to the next life before Jasper and the park will be restored to the splendour I remember.

the worst part about this was that it was preventable. poor fire mitigation - over mitigation, even - made jasper a tinderbox just waiting for "the big one." This was likely human-started, but unmanageable because of human mismanagement for decades. I'm so sad.

Does anyone Believe this was a Normal Forest fire that just happen to Spread to Both Sides of Jasper?

somebody needs to investigate to see if there's a connection between cloud seeding/weather modification and these out of control, fast spreading fires ... js

The countless number of wildlife lost, gone, displaced, dead. Unimaginable.

In 1976 I drove from NYC to Prince Rupert to take the ferry to Alaska. I spent a night in Jasper and have told friends it is one of the most beautiful places I've seen. I'm heartbroken to see what's happened. Jasper is in my prayers.

I am in PEI and there is so much dead trees piling up from recent storms I strongly feel this whole island is at risk of uncontrollable forest fires. I totally blame bad government policies related to negligent forest management and environmental policies

The wonderful memories of this place can’t 🔥 burn

Those pine beetle trees should have been logged immediately after the infestation. The lumber is only good for a few years and if it isn't harvested it soon rots and becomes a fire hazard.

A Canadian icon is lost yes but we will prevail, rebuild even, but we must take stock of the gravity of this profound tragedy.
