👉 Download the Federal Resume Template & Job Checklist here:

The government is about to increase thousands of federal employees' salaries again but this time it is not for everyone. The special salary rate (SSR) will be targeted towards the 2210, IT Specialist, job series. The pay increase will be different depending on your GS grade. Also, each federal agency can decide if they want to adopt this new salary increase. The Department of Veterans affairs with other agencies have already agreed to implement the SSR later this year. In this video, I discuss the SSR and go over a couple of different scenarios on how it will impact pay.

Thanks for watching!

16 years ago, the SSR for 2210 series was 7K-10K more per year than the standard GS equivelant. Currently, both payscales are about the same. (Not so special anymore) The SSR, over the last 16 years, has not kept up with industry and been competitive. This is greatly needed!

I'm a 2210 GS9. I really can't wait for this. My brother who works in IT at the MGM Casino makes $30, 000 more than me every year, despite the fact that I started in IT 2 years before him and he doesn't have a college degree like me.

The Navy and by extension, the DOD is on the fence with this. But when have they ever done anything in their employees best interests? They would rather wait until they are crippled, as 2210s jump ship to either military contracting or other agencies rather than admit there's a staffing or moral problem.🤦‍♂️

I heard it now has to pass through Congress in order to get approved due to our current economical situation. Edit : according to reddit it has been cancelled.

I am a IT specialist recent grad at the GS 7 and I work at GPO. I hope my agency approves this because it would result in a 26% pay increase

From my understanding, SSR's for 2210/0854/1550 series should be happening at VA this summer, although nothing is guaranteed until everything is said and done. Other agencies will have to get on board too, unless they want to see their best I.T. employees jump ship and apply for the agency down the street that pays 20% more.

Friends in the National Guard has said the Chief of National Guard Bureau said they aren’t going to use it. I told them fine. I’ll help them find positions for the good techs to apply for.

Great video. What other agencies could you see adding the 2210 SSR -- CDC, NIH, DOT? When will be it fully implemented? How about HUD?

Is there any talk to do SSR's by location/duty station? The COL adjustments are supposed to assist, but apartments in the hard to fill areas (DC, MD, CA, etc) are exceeding the COL adjustments when it comes to rent.

Are these new SSR's (1-18 from what I've heard and seen) going to replace the current ones (999 series)?

This is the first video I've found that's finally addressed the new SSR. Thank you for addressing it.
Do you know if DOD has plans to implement it? I am DOD/DON and when I asked someone at my sub-agency about it they said DON has just finished trying to cut 800M+ from their budget and this SSR would be counterintuitive.

I was hoping to stay DOD my career, but getting an 5-6 steps increase in salary that would otherwise take you 10+ years is hard to pass up.

This is good info. The only thing that I fear is that this would require agencies to have a higher budget to pay these amounts to us 2210s, and it’s already difficult trying to get a budget in the first place 😞
