Because that's not nearly enough to satisfy the deepest longing of the heart. Human beings want the infinite good, the infinite truth, the infinite beauty. Human love is wonderful, but our hearts ache for a perfect love. "The best parts of human nature" aren't even close to good enough!

Thank you Fr. Barron. Your videos have always given me so much hope. I love your explanation of 'anxiety' in Philippians.

God became human, not in order to take away suffering, but rather to fill it with his presence.

I have a similar story. I was raised liberally Catholic, but I turned away from it as I entered my teen years. I became an atheist and began studying eastern and secular philosophies, but ultimately, none of that equipped me with as clear of a view of life and it's true meaning as Jesus Christ and his church. God bless you!

Having God makes a huge difference. To know God's love is to know that there is JUSTICE that is beyond our human understanding. With God, there is HOPE. With God, we can be at PEACE despite all the pains and sufferings in this world.

When I heard about this tragic event, I was deeply emotionally disturbed. The best way to deal with horrible events is not by giving into negative forces but by praying and meditating. Praying seems to balance out the negative forces and brings in positive forces.

I appreciate Fr. Barron's perspective on Newtown and how the Cross reveals another parallel to the tragic events of that Friday. One father of a murdered child stated he would not hate due to this event in his life. God has used this in a way to bring a good from an evil thing. I pray for the people of Newtown.

Excellent video. Many of the young victims' parents will have their faith strengthened in the healing process. In this situation, one should remember the difference between happiness and joy. Happiness is dependent on outward circumstances while joy is dependent on internal circumstances (one's love of God). Only joy can coexist with sorrow. I pray that the parents in Newtown have a renewed joy in Christ as they deal with their sorrows.

Well put. Only through the cross and resurrection do we find ultimate meaning. Nothing obscure or petty about God suffering with us and leading the way through it. Christ is Risen!

I believe God allows evil so that we know what he endured for us which produces intimacy with him and an appreciation and compassion for others to not suffer as we have. Suffering is humbling and circumcises our hearts so that we can show a mature love towards one another like Jesus. His body is broken and compassion helps us to be one as the father son and spirit are one. Everything is to nurturer still have intimacy with the Lord and that is the purpose of the Theodicy and my understanding. You are so anointed Bishop thank you so much!

Thank you, Father Barron. I think the explanation of evil relates to God's gift of free will. He does not control and dictate behavior. He allows his creatures to choose one or the other to suffer the eternal consequences of damnation to those who choose to do evil.

When I heard about this tragic event on December 13th 2012, I was deeply disturbed and said to myself, "Why, why!!" Now often times when I hear about tragedies that are going on, I have to think positive and mediate with my rosary beads.

And hate it? On what basis? The point of the quote was to say that people have misconceptions and misunderstandings of what the Church teaches and stands for. There are always good, coherent answers that we've come up with in the past 2000 years

God is always here. He was there in CT in the principal who went forward towards danger; He was there in the Teachers who hid there children, costing one her life; He was there in the police who rushed in, not knowing if the threat was still present...yes, He is always here...

Father, how can we find hope in Christ when there is so much evil in the world? I see and hear about so much depravity that I sometimes can't help but feel despair and hatred about the world.

Its been almost a year and the thought if it happening to innocent children, and the thought of what if it happened to my little cousins, still to this day scares me.the complete silence in my normally rowdy school said it all.not a single person spoke.

True! One humanely "feels" the "pain" of such tragedy (and others) but because of God's Love which you talk about one can also find that same all conquering Love in your reference to the "Gospel of Prosperity!"(Obviously confirmed in Saint Paul and throughout the Holy Bible:God's Word)."Peace be with you".
