we wanted the laser flag, i assure you :C
the final flags were chosen by a committee at the time, and like 4 of the designs were duplicates.
Everyone was super pissed on how they handled it because there were so many better potential options

i remember following this whole situation, hoping we aussies would finally have a flag of our own by the end of it (not one that look exactly like the kiwi one). most of the designs submitted looked exactly like that one that almost won, just coloured differently (even submitted by the same person). laser kiwi was clearly the better choice lmao
