That number comes from a lawsuit where he sued record executives for royalties he was owed from his music. 50 million is the estimated amount of money he wouldve made had he priperly been paidnroyalties since the 70s. Net worth is just an estimation of the total value of ones assets. He likely has never had more than a million dollars in his own name at any given time.

These artists back in the 60s and 70s were usually not paid the way artists are nowadays. They were excluded from a majority of the financial gains and never really had ownership rights. These problems still exist, but the artksts do tend to get paid better
