Playstation 1 disc swap trick (much easier!)

This only requires one swap! This is a launch day PS1, so I have no idea if it works on ones released later.

The toothpick holding down the spin button and holding up the disc cover is crucial.

This brings me so much memories on my childhood. We did this with most of the games with my friend and played lots of hours. I think we had different version because we had to swap it twice. I dont even remember how we knew this trick as 12 years old kids. Nostalgy

I wanted to show what the swap trick was a friend so I found this video, and you're right right, this is WAY easier than what I had to do! Then again we all fell for the tips on how to revive Aerith, so I'm glad it actually worked (took me so many damn tries the first time) 😅

This makes it so simple I genuinely don't get the same anxiety as I get watching other tutorials, like this seems doable

I used to do this technique back in the day, only downside is you need to have a game first with a lot of redbook audio on it. Otherwise the other game will either have the wrong track, or be completely silent.

Took me a few tries to get the timing right. This video was very helpful.

This PS require only one swap because is a 1001 with an old bios revision (it doesn't check the region twice after switching the reading speed).

Try this trick with a newer one (like 5501) and you'll see doesn't work anymore :)

One thing id like to mention is that its a bit of a pain for the slim models, but for the phat model this is what you see here, not that hard.

God I remember doing this as a kid when my brothers and I got one for Xmas the year it came out. I was curious what would happen if you open it while it was playing a game.

I had the cheat device for parallel port. So it was easy to use the swap trick.

We did this a lot but thought there was one more swap involved. Awesome

Pure nostalgia blast. Used to have to do this with MGS1 and FF7 games since I only had the first few discs (got them second hand as a young kid) and man what a freaking blast from the past. It's crazy how easy the 'DRM' on this was beaten with just a disk swap.

PlayStation 1: I can play Japanese PS1 games by putting freeloaders, cheat codes and doing this trick called “Disc swap” by putting a spring on the button that activates the spinning mechanism:)

PlayStation 2: I can’t do these kind of things cause I’m a disc tray based system and I don’t want anybody removing my beautiful PlayStation logo from my tray:(

On mine you can do it through the music player. Just enter music player, put disc in, hold down button on lid, wait until track count read, disc stops spinning, switch disc, exit music player. Viola. Knew this in 1995.
