I learned this from my grandfather. Get a part-time job, join programs and internships, and the most important thing, network with people while in college. Graduating with no work experience or connections and only a degree/certificate does very little to land you a job. Most people get jobs from referrals. Don't sacrifice your social life for numbers on a piece of paper.

Companies don't care about degrees, they care about experience.
Also me: How can I get experience if you don't hire me?

Changed my perception of education when I read a book that said "you go to class to master a skill not to decide your fate" it was a financial book so yeah

NGL, doing customer service is a great way to get a broad level of experience within a company your interested in as you gain broad hands-on knowledge of almost every aspect of the companies product. 10/10 deffo go for it if it matches your degree

I'm almost 50 and a former educator and coach. If I could go back, I'd go to trade school, because that is basically the kind of work I'm doing now and I enjoy it. Just took 20 years to figure it out. Thought I had to go to college to be somebody. Turns out, enjoying what you do means more.

Being a mechanic/ welder doesn’t seem too bad of a decision now. Kinda glad I went that route

A few days ago my 2nd year teacher in uni said this to the whole class.
"Get a part time job before graduating. Because its what I regret not doing. No one would hire me. I had a Bachelor of Arts, so what I did was get a Bachelors of Education, and a Doctorate to get a job as a Professor here."

Noticed how she didn't show us what the degrees are for so we can't tell what bad choices she made. A masters in gender studies surprisingly isn't wanted by any company other than maybe Starbucks.

Architect technologist here. First year after graduation I couldn’t find a job, was getting pretty desperate. Got one eventually due to a colleagues recommendation. Basically my reputation landed me a job. 5 years into the industry - now I am being head hunted. Keep trying, change tactics, I’m sure you’ll get through this.

I worked in warehouses out of school because I had no idea where I wanted to be in life. I went on through my 20s and progressed somewhat. By 30, the GFC put me into dire straits so I took my degree, graduating in 2018 at 36. Now, at 42, I am still working at the same rank, for the same pay that I had at half my age, except we have a housing and cost of living crisis and I’m halfway to retirement. I suggest getting a trade.

The field in which you got those degrees is an important detail. Not all degrees are equally useful.

I fell into the same trap... worked at a warehouse to pay off my student loans... then I crossed over into construction. Now I have real skills I can take anywhere and be employable. Skilled trades yall

Dad always said " Easier to find a job when you already have one". Sometimes you just gotta take what live gives you and move from that point. I'd rather be working making money then sitting at home

There are more people with college degrees today than ever before
Yet college has gotten more expensive and became less meaningful
Thats literally the opposite of how economics is supposed to work

Some pieces of paper are only important when a few people have them.

All it takes is the right connections in life to get you where you want to be at! No college will give you the answers you need, but a good mentor would!

This happens to so many people once they graduate college. I applied to hundreds of jobs, and found nothing. I worked a retail job part time, and was a substitute teacher for five years after graduating. The only reason I have my full time job now; a friend of mine walked into my retail job one evening. We hadn’t seen each other in three years. She referenced me into my current job now. I still worked retail part time for another 5 years to supplement my income.

As an employer I will be AS HONEST as I can.

Back in the 1960s a person having a college degree was more rare. So it was a big plus for companies.

But now…
Everyone who applies has a college degree. So we have to find another way to find the best candidate.

It’s EXPERIENCE!!!
If you have experience you will most likely get the job.
There are individuals with no high school diploma getting jobs just because of their EXPERIENCE.

You can gain experience through volunteer work.
