So… is Thorn’s New Exotic Catalyst Good? Or Trash?

Thorn has an Exotic Catalyst now! Is it good? Bad? Mid? How do you GET the Thorn Catalyst, anyway? What does it do? Gotchu covered, let's cover it real quick.

Thorn was already pretty good in PVP, but felt really bad to use in PVE due to the tiny mag. Being able to overflow the thing is going to be a godsend.

Thorn is my all time favorite weapon from Destiny. I love the sound, I love the look, I love the lore...this catalyst though. Its pushed my love for the gun over the edge. It is a monster and in my opinion the perfect handcannon for pvp. It has high range, great stability, insane handling, massive AA value, flinches with each poison tic, decent AE, surprisingly accurate hipfire, etc etc. Its everything a pvp weapon should be and I adore it.

The Overflow functionality becoming a part of the base weapon is actually pretty big. Thorn absolutely murders stuff in PvE and you essentially never have to reload. Having 20 or 30 shots in the magazine also means you don't have to worry about dispatching Majors too much either since you can just keep shooting them. Also we have Unstoppable Handcannon this Season so that's an added bonus I guess...

It's basically a Thorn buff, that you have to unlock. I'm not mad about it, I wasn't expecting a crazy Catalyst. This is pretty good.

5th PVP match got the catalyst. Warlock with Necrotic Grips and the Grasp dungeon the catalyst was done in 15 min. Love Thorn

Try to get the catalyst this week as the story mission on the moon will make for an easy catalyst completion. Just saying. 👍. (I got mine in crucible survival after losing 5 straight rounds). You don't need to win to get it. I got completely ventilated and still came away with the catalyst.

Fun fact, you don't actually have to have the catalyst completed to overflow the mag with Remnants.
I noticed mine overflowing when working on it.
Probably a bug though.

To me, it's like transversive steps...good, but pretty boring. I'm just someone who personally prefers fun "all in" effects, as opposed to something consistently beneficial, with a minor to moderate impact. Like using Verity's to get 1 shot grenades, which leads into x5 adrenaline junkie...vs running a little faster with transversive

I got my mine in gambit too, pretty fast drop as well! They definitely beefed up the drop rate on stuff cause shaders, ships and shells were dropping left and right forest me and my fireteam!

Thorn is my absolute favorite exotic in Destiny, I remember getting it back in D1 through its exotic quest and loved it the first time I ever used it and then when it came to D2 I wanted it so badly that I played through its D2 mission quest and got it. I love that finally it got some love after all the out cries to make it better again
