The reasons that the stats identifying Autism, is because more than once, the diagnostic criteria have been broadened. A simple example, is that more girls are being diagnosed. Not because it wasn't there before, but because the symptoms were not as obvious, girls are better at masking and that some characteristics were brushed off due to gender bias. My comment is being made in 2022, so this lecture is quite out of date and this idea that Autism is increasing is proven false.
No one grows out of Autism. Autistic people learn to mask. IQ is separate to Autism. Being none verbal or being Selective Autism does not reflect IQ. I'm ADHD and ASD. I love my Autism and would not change from being Autistic. I'm 65 and only just this year was diagnosed. Now, I understand what's been going on. My ADHD has been the biggest issue for me and Allistic/Neurotypical people from my point of view, are generally poor communicators. Issues I have with Neurotypical verbal expression: vague, unclear instructions(get the notebook on the shelf for me...that is not specific when there is more than one shelf and or...what kind of notebook...I see several possibilities), making assumptions (n expecting people to be mind readers, getting agitated, snapping at us), often mumble, and very touchy. I on the other hand, am very forthright and explicit. I do have a sense of humour, but it often doesn't match neurotically humour...its funny though! Being expected to laugh at something not funny and falls flat for me...well I've learned to mask a smile unless its bigoted and at someones expense.
I was late speaking, but given tools to create through drawing. I drew before I spoke. I loved it and became an artist. Nature, freedom to create verses having to follow exact instructions, exploitative arts, dance and did I say nature???
I really liked many things Dr, Bennet had to say. I also have great respect for Temple Granden. I also have mild dyslexia, yet I can turn a 2D drawing into a 3d object that works. I can create original work without copying. I'm quite gifted. I also write poetry. So really, I love my Autistic gifts and firmly believe that genetically tampering with Autistic DNA is a huge mistake. We are only now getting a broad view of Autism. Only now, are we really starting to hear from a broad cross section of Autistic people who have a great deal to say. We need to be heard. We need to be respected. We are striving to help Neurotypical people to understand that we have always been part of humanity and that that needs to continue. Do not, make the mistake, of trying to help us, become Eugenics for the convenience of Neurotypicals. You wont be doing it for us.
Yes, we are different. That's a good thing. Healthy living whole foods, clean water, lots of nature connection, safe creative environments (no judgment), create environments that respect heightened senses and realize, that that's a gift... you might be very surprised, I have a University degree.
I want to see Neutrotypicals learn to be better communicators not just us. I want to see more awareness and a lot less bigotry and stereotyping. So called Autism recovery is just masking and masking is very stressful. It causes meltdowns and shutdowns. Our blooming of connections is a huge gift. Do not, shut it down.

Autism doesnt need a cure!

However, They need to not only diagnose kids, but adults as well who were never diagnose til their 20s, 30s or even 40s!

Update on the autism epidemic; I just cracked it. The increase in California started about 15 years ago, exactly when neonicotinoid insecticides came on the market and started being used extensively in California. It's the same compound which is killing honeybess and wildlife. It's an immunosuppressant. It was developed in the late 90s, which is why the epidermic didn't exist before then.

I don't recall anyone I ever went to school with having autism (1968-1981). Is that because there were fewer cases or were they sent to different schools/institutions? If fewer cases then, why?

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. What causes autism?

Gluten sensitivity is a real thing. It’s reasonable to think that gluten sensitivity exists on a sort of spectrum or at different levels as well. And that it can affect kids who are not good at identifying their sensitivities from the start.

Working mothers no extended family connections or general neglect or tying up in bed overuse of paracetamol or other medicine to make babies sleep use overuse of technology junk food I personally witnessed this in how my grandchildren is raised. In other words don’t do everything abnormal and expect normal development

Required to watch, annalize and summarize this video for a course I'm taking in school. What's I've mostly learned (thanks to the ads) is I need to work out more, I should be earning a 6-figure income from home in my spare time, and my roof should be replaced before rates go up. Wonder if I should put any of that in my summary paper? Seriously, UCTV? You aren't earning enough through tuition charges, you have to make sure you get every dime you can from YouTube too?

The diagnosis of "Autism Spectrum" is rather like "Fibromyalgia" ---it's the new A.D.D, when it could be lack of parental interaction, or even mild MR or some other neurological issues, or even within the realm of "normal" behavior for children.

Is anyone looking at parental substance use (scripted) and / or abuse (street drugs) before conception?
(Obviously difficult due to the covert nature, but probably much more prevalent than assumed).

would humanity research about autism in an animal and not in our species, we would consider race mixing. but since its in our species that is racist.
