That’s why I got a 3D printer in my garage 🤷‍♂️😂

I hate that the definition of reliability is not universal

I own a BMW 530XD E60 from 2005. This is supposed to be one of the worst reliability car ever made at that time. After 14 years and 200K, the car still works great and it became the most reliable car I’ve owned. Here’s what I changed in 14 years, most are normal consumables:
- obviously brake pads and discs
- 2 ball bearings on the back wheels
- some rubber tubes that after many years showed sign of dry and cracking.
- 2 shock absorbers
- engine supports as they weakened and had increased engine vibration.
- 1 fuel injector
- one set of xenon bulbs
- 2 thermostats
- webasto pump
That’s about it. For 14 years and 200k kilometers, With 65% city driving, I’d say that’s pretty damn reliable.

My E36 and E39 use the same ignition coils, sparkplugs, oil filters and engine oil

That’s why when ppl ask me for what reason I own an E39 with 16 years old instead of a 2011 onwards my answer is simple (best cars ever made) build to last...👌🏎

No comparison between european healthcare and American
Middle class pays about the same tax or less, if u count health insurance as a tax Americans pay more, they also play more for the health services and drugs, by far
Property taxes also higher in the US
Vat is higher in Europe

Your arguments make no sense. If government regulations are to blame for BMW's poor reliability, how do you explain the record of the Big 3? If reduced environmental regulations equals increased reliability, does that mean countries such as India should produce the most reliable cars? In case you didn't realize, those were rhetorical questions. The real cause is corporate greed. BMW made over 98 billion euros in PROFIT in 2018. Not a small number by any means, and the company is under no financial threat. However, that was still a decline, so in that same year, they upped their cost cutting measures (as per Automotive News). There is no such thing as "good enough" for big corporations, car companies are not happy unless they consistently make more money than they ever did, and will not stop until the entire industry is one huge conglomerate. Different companies attempt to achieve those goals through different means, BMW just happens to use engineered obsolescence.
Ps. I am an American living as a PR in Canada, I have known and experienced both systems, and your notions of healthcare is completely inaccurate, but that's way too complex an issue to address in a YouTube comment section.

I loved my 92 325, bulletproof. Then I bought a 2011 128, holy cow, what hasn't gone wrong. I guess I'll have to buy a Lexus for my next car instead.

New BMWs are horribly complicated compared to the older cars. My E30 325e is 33 years old, barely maintained by its previous owners, and still runs like a champ. There is lots of space to work on everything and everything is user-serviceable - the auto transmission even has a dipstick! The car has all the basic creature comforts I need - AC, heater, sound system, torquey I6 engine, and auto transmission. New BMWs have none of these qualities and have too much useless tech, safety, and emissions crap stuffed into them and even if you baby the cars they still fall apart

I Have a 01 X5 3.0 and a 02 330I 3.0 only thing you have to do to keep these things on the road is the cooling system adn belts and pullies/ chain guide or chain.... bmw's in the early 2000's are one of the most reliable engines and cars of all time especially the 2002 330i sports edition.... people who say bmws our not reliable obviously never worked on their own rigs.

The n63 and n20 engines issues have done huge damage to the brand, they are junk by 80, 000 miles and very labor intensive to repair in the case of the n63

I've owned a 2004 X3 3.0 for six years loved it so much I bought a 2013 X5 diesel for my wife, I hope I didn't make a mistake.

Anything manufactured at the price point of a BMW will not be built to last. If they make it last, most of us would wait for it to depreciate and then buy a reliable used luxury vehicle. That could almost certainly mean that the manufacturer would get lesser newer cars out of the door and who wants that. So by shortening the lifecycle of each unit (as they are too expensive to fix) they keep a healthy count of of units that get sold and serviced, with each unit being sold at the hefty premium.

This is one of the biggest reasons why am keeping my ten year old bmw, I don’t want none of these newer vehicles, they are all plastic computerized extortionist machines, and the stealers are all thieves, good video Nathan, the truth is always appreciated.

You are wrong about healthcare in the UK we pay less per capita than the USA you may be right about other european countries.

I owned European cars for 30 years. I worked on my own stuff or I could have never afforded it. Last year we started swapping over to Lexus. We have two left and after they are sold, that’s it forever.

Seems as if there's an oppotunity for an entrepanure to sort through all engine parts subject to heat and make/sell metal replacements.  Is the variety too great a number of parts?  I think many BMW enthusiats would take the time to replace with metal.

I honestly don't mind replacing plastic parts (within reason). That presumes the plastic parts are reasonably cheap to buy. VW has the same problem but aftermarket parts makers can produce metal replacements for plastic pieces at almost the same price as the OEM plastic version.
