The HORI Split Pad Pro Attachment Set is out! It gives you the ability to use the HORI Split Pad Pro as a wired controller while playing in docked mode. Check out my honest review.

Watch my full review on just the HORI Split Pad Pro:

Full Review:
The new HORI Split Pad Pro Attachment Set retails for about $80 and features the Hori Split Pad Pro itself, and the newly released wired attachment controller. It's officially licensed by Nintendo and can be used with both the OLED and Original Switch! We're going to take a closer look at this new attachment set, and compare it to Nintendo's official Switch Pro Controller.

The regular Split Pad is $45 - $50 and the new Split Pad Pro with Attachment Set is $80.The attachment set is only available in black right now.

HORI Split Pad Pro Attachment Set Features:

Pros:
- 3.5mm headphone/microphone jack.
- Physical buttons to mute the mic or turn the headset volume up or down.
- Ability to plug into Switch dock and use as if it was a full-sized controller.
- Large, feels great to use for extended sessions.

Cons:
- Wired.
- Expensive.
- Short cord.
- No Vibration.
- No NFC Support for Amiibo.
- No Motion Controls.

So who is this for? This is for people who use their Nintendo Switch 50% of the time in portable mode, and 50% of the time in docked mode. It's for people who don't already have a Switch Pro controller, and who want a full-size controller feel while using the Switch in portable mode while also having the option to use that same controller in docked mode on the couch.

Is the Hori Split Pad Pro Attachment Set Worth it? Not in my opinion. It's $80, which basically means you're paying an extra $30 just for the HORI Split Pad Pro Attachment Set only. You can get just the Hori Split Pad pro for about $50, sometimes you can find certain colors on sale.

The official wireless Nintendo Switch Pro controller costs $10 less, is a completely wireless controller, features vibration, features motion controls, and features NFC for Amiibo support.

For these reasons, I don't think the Split Pad Pro Attachment Set is the right accessory for me.

What do you think? Is it worth it?

I’d buy the attachment if it was cheaper or sold separately. I already have the Hori split controller (which is awesome). I agree that based on the price of the current attachment package, I’d buy the Nintendo pro controller instead.

I personally would not be getting the attachment but..

One point that I would like to highlight and rarely mentioned about the hori compared to other joy con alternatives is that the console does not have to keep the hori charged since they do not run on batteries.. After using the hori for the past 2 years, I have noticed that the console is less heated after hours of handheld gaming with the hori. It has become my favourite joy con by far.

Previously I’ve interested for this controller, but after watched your video, I can’t agree more. Wireless is such an important thing and I don’t want to spend that much for a cabled controller.
Thank you for making this video

super useful info. i was wondering why the combo on amazon offered another black controller and this helped me understand, that was unnecessary and would have left me with and extra controller. i agree on the point about the lack of features and that's what did it for me. i'll just get the $70 one, thanks dude!

I'm late to the party, but I have a few thoughts to add, for anybody also joining in late/researching this stuff:

- Nintendo's official layout/Pro Controller mimics the SNES grouping of the action buttons, so that ABXY don't make a square, but a *slight* rhombus. This means a tiny bit bigger gap between Y & A, than compared to, say, an Xbox or Playstation controller (squared action button area). Joy-Con, I *think* have the same, or similar asymmetry as the Pro Controller, but the buttons/spacing are at such a smaller scale, it hard to notice. The Split Pad Pro is squared, like Xbox/PS.

- The Nintendo Pro Controller has slightly more "angle of attack" of the grips, which can be more ergonomic (assuming your shoulder span isn't that of a new born baby - your arms come in toward your center from an angle, your elbow are not at your sides). However, the Hori Split Pad Pro is slightly wider with the wire-attachment incorporated (and *much* wider if you have the Split Pad Pro attached to the Switch itself, of course). That extra width reduces the need for that angle of attack of the grips/requires less rolling forward of the shoulders, which is more ergonomic (a win for Hori).

- Hori's Split Pad Pro has assignable back (paddle) buttons underneath, which can reduce exhaustion/stress, and increase speed.

- Hori's Split Pad Pro has turbo input functionality, which can be useful in a lot of games, reducing stress/exhaustion.

- Wireless isn't really even an option when playing in a tournament, so the "Pro" moniker fits Hori's option better, technically. While it's said that the Nintendo Pro Controller has lower input lag via wireless connection, that depends on the "wireless environment", and, ultimately, a wired-only controller is guaranteed to be consistent and reliable. Nintendo's controller can be wired, too, but USB C is relatively flimsy compared to something hard-wired like the Hori attachment.

- Hori being useful in handheld mode is ideal. Few play in table-top mode, or use a controller for Switch Lite. Switch OLED has a much better stand than the original system, but... you may as well just use handheld mode. The exception is playing multiplayer table-top mode, and, yeah, I play that way with my kid when they want to do Stick Fight the Game on the couch. Don't throw your Joy-Con away or anything, of course.

- I miss HD rumble (any rumble at all) with my Split Pad Pro, but it's so dang comfortable/has the ideal layout, more functionality. I wish I got one a long time ago. I'm definitely going to pick up the wired attachment if I can get one for cheap.

Okay so I am actively looking for something like this. I have the split pad already and its main downside to me is that I cant use it docked; which I need to record gameplay and I've gotten into BoTW speedrunning lately.

I LOVE the back paddles which I miss a ton with the pro controller, but since they dont sell this connector seperately it would be really hard to justify..

Very much hoping hori start selling it seperately soon

For that price I’d rather them sell the split pad pro wireless. $80 is still pretty steep for wireless big joycons but it’s better than wired imo

I really wish I could buy the attachment set by itself. I already have the split pad pro and I love its feel. Also, great video! I really like your calm tone.

I bought a normal split pad pro without the attachment I wish I had looked more and found the attachment one so I can use it with the tv I only hope they start selling the attachment on it’s own I’m stuck using an adapter with the wii u pro controller to play in tv mode lol

Honestly that 3.5mm Jack is a selling point for me. I prefer to play with headphones

Being wired in this case is a pro for me (although they could have been cheaper, this price is insane). Reason being A: less input lag and B: I experienced severe input lag if multiple third party controllers are connected to the Switch. This is really noticable in games like Smash, Speedrunners, fast Platformers and Fighting Games in general.
Of course you could get the Pro Controller for less. I have one on the side. But I prefer the Dpad on the Horis any day of the week if I need it. Being able to use it in TV mode is worth it to me

This will also be perfect for the PeakDo 7-inch mm-Wave Streaming Handheld Game Device.

I got hori split pad pro but instead of getting this attachment. I would rather go for BINBOK wireless with motion control maybe if its only 50% cheaper then it's a pick for me

I've been so unlucky with my split pad pros, bought 4 and returned 3

1. Drift
2. Mushy/sticky buttons
3. Trigger not working unless pushed extremely hard

4. Still going strong but only bought it a week ago 😂💪

Will the attachment thing sell by itself

Do they make a wireless version? My son Marcus wants a wireless one.

Well I have a pro controller for docked mode but I’m planning to get the Hori Split Pad Pro for portable gaming without the attachment.
