Switzerland pleasing Putin? EU nation accuses Bern of 'blocking' weapons supply to Ukraine

Switzerland takes a major pro-Russia step in the midst of the war in Ukraine. Bern is "vetoing the delivery of certain Swiss-made war materials" from Madrid to Kyiv. This big claim has been made by Spanish Defence Minister Margarita Robles. The Spanish minister also talked about Madrid's "fear" of the war spilling over. "Today, a missile can fly from Moscow to Madrid," claimed Minister Margarita Robles. Switzerland has stuck firmly to the line that its neutrality would be damaged by allowing other countries to send Swiss-made weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. Switzerland has turned down Germany and Denmark's arms supply requests but has also joined the sanctions imposed by the West on Russia over the Ukraine conflict, prompting an outcry from Moscow. However, with the fresh arms block bid, the Swiss government seems to be trying to please Russian President Vladimir Putin and re-emphasise its neutral stance.

It's not a pro-Russia step, God Hindustan Times pls get ur facts right on this. Swiss have it in their constitution to not send weapons into conflict, which incidentally also means cannot use Swiss territory to send weapons shipments into conflict zones. This is more a domestic policy of Swiss and has nothing to do with appeasing Russia.

That's why a neutral nation should never join a union. Neutrality means attending one's own interests first, especially in times of crisis. As for getting aid, a neutral nation can get aid from any country if they have positive relations with each other.

EU wants it's fellow EU members, to stick together, to stay strong against the might of Russia. Switzerland has always been neutral and they should maintain their neutrality. But EU seems to get desperate and resorting to arm twisting. Losing any kind of support, sends fears up their spine.

Switzerland is desperate to retain their "neutrality" tag but they sent that batch of equipment though. It's like trying to eat your cake and still have it. I bet very soon at least one of these countries will realize what they're doing is not in their interests at all.

A right of any nation to be neutral. USA will maybe engineer some coup there next like it did to cause the Ukraine war. The right of Russia to defend its borders against hostile acts. The problem is the EU lets USA decide on its foreign policy.

To join the sanctions was a big mistake. The sanctions are an act of economic war. A neutral nation cannot take part on war activities wether economically nor with delivery of weapons. I am very happy that we (I am swiss) do not allow to send swiss made weapons or ammunitions to Ukraine. In every deal with the swiss for ammunition or weapons it’s mentioned that it is not allowed to re-export it without approval from the swiss.
The neutrality is very important for Switzerland. Thank god they recognized it early enough.
