In 21st century, what is the role and need of religion? When two minds as brilliant as Javed Akhtar and Makarand Paranjape sit down to discuss this, it surely becomes one of the most interesting conversations.

Javed & Makrand dive deep into their own thoughts and beliefs of religion and faith. With this, they also dive into the realms of dharma and spirituality. While one is against religion, the other is a staunch believer of it, while one stands by logic and reasoning, the other believes in the existence of dharma and quantum physics. I was there among the audience. Many people have complained about cuts. Let me reveal this was because Makarand tried to derail the debate with his continous bickering which Shoma moderated with finesse. Javed Akhtar didn't utter a word to derail the debate while Makarand, as a man child he is, interjected, blabbered and misdirected multiple times.
It was a masterclass in moderation by Shoma Chaudhury amidst such high level intellect of Javed Akhtar and cunningness + gaslighting with multiple terms and narratives by RSS spookie Makarand.
Shoma Chaudhury hats off. Media editors and self professed high shot news anchors must watch and learn!🙏
PS: If whole video is released then believe you me, Makarand's image of being intellectual will vanish within seconds!

Shoma Chaudhary moderated the talk brilliantly, one of the rare occasions where the moderator knows the job and without taking sides seamlessly finishes such a controversial but important conversation between two intelligent people. It is very easy to agree with Javed Akhtar, i share most of it myself what he points out. He makes you understand why religion should not be followed blindly and the inherent problems of being religious. However, i can not dismiss most of the things Prof Markrand mentions. The position he takes in this discussion is the controversial one and he does it brilliantly with immense poise and without raising his voice even once. commendable to say the least and even at places where Javed Akhtar almost 'seduces' him to loose his demeanour, he resists in a very dignified manner, mostly with a smile and without interrupting the flow of conversation. A rare example of conversation between two different opinions without any chaos and adding to the content. a very good interaction and to my mind with no losers on either sides.

I am a christian but sorry Indic religions and Middle Eastern religions are not the same. Fundamental outlook towards the world is different thereby the outcome. Abrahamic religions at the basic are rule driven, which is why you can quantify the tangibles in these societies. Indic religions on the other hand are fundamentally not rule based. Which is why there are so many sects within Indic religions. So I agree with Makrans for not falling for Javed’s trap
