Audrey wasn't just an actress, dancer and humanitarian, she was an incredible person who battled adversity (her father was a Nazi-supporter who abandoned his family just prior to WWII, .leaving them to fend for themselves during a time when hundreds of their countrymen were starving to death, sometimes eating things like ground tulip pulp and paper to survive. She was in the Netherlands during this time, dancing ballet, and not only used her talents to earn money for the resistance, but was a secret member who sometimes hid important messages in her ballet shoes and passed them on to other members of the resistance. She worked tirelessly for UNICEF to help battle truly horrible conditions of poverty, medical neglect, starvation & exploitation worldwide, and was a deeply caring, truly kind, beautiful soul. She is my favorite actress of all time.

There's a story she told about her contribution during WWII, she was doubtful whether or not she made any significant contribution. She lived in Holland and was part of the resistance against the Germans and would help Allied fighter pilots that were shot down to get back to England. She mentioned this on a movie set one time, and a cameraman came up to her and emphatically defended her contribution, because she saved his life when he was shot down over Holland. Audrey was considered the new style when she came on the scene with her short hair and pixie body. She was petit because there wasn't much to eat during the war. She went on to make wonderful movies and was UNESCO food ambassador later in life. Sadly she died still too early because of cancer; like all those during trying times from WWII onwards that smoked. She is grace personified, she is lady-like and she was not a person to easily sway or push around; she made it fashionable for a young lady to speak up. Every guy wanted to date her, every girl wanted to be her. She's a big deal.
