Taco Bell | The Rise and Fall, then Rise AGAIN

I’ve been reading up on Glen Bell (Taco Bell founder) to try and understand what kind of person gives birth to a fast-food empire. Unlike Ray Kroc (McDonald's), Glen Bell didn’t screw over honest hard-working company founders in the name of expedience, ego, or greed. Bell bootstrapped his businesses by slowly building off small successes. At only 23-years-old spent the first few years of his entrepreneurial career starting not one, but four hamburger stands, two different taquerias, and one miniature golf course. I particularly like the miniature gold course part of this story because it just seems so random. Hopefully, this video will give you what it gave me as I researched it; deep insight into the life of one of American’s great but rarely talked about entrepreneurs, and how his company overcame obstacles to become the behemoth it is today.

Fun fact: In the early 1960s, Glen Bell's wife came up with the name for a hot dog restaurant a friend was opening, although the friend didn't really like it at first. The name was Der Wienerschnitzel, now just known as Wienerschnitzel.

As an American American, I am very proud to learn about Glen Bell, so proud of his Mid-west roots. Shout out to the Mid-west. To see an American American do so well in the Taco Business is amazing.

During summer vacations from school, I used to ride my bike to the closest Taco Bell near where we lived pretty much everyday for a bean burrito and bell burger. This was when they had the old walk-up locations with outdoor seating and fire pits. There are still some of these old style buildings around except they are no longer Taco Bell locations. I still go to a local Taco Bell where I live now once in awhile that was completely renovated a few years ago. Taco Bell used to be cheap eats, but now it has gotten fairly expensive for the mediocre fast food they serve. They still serve Pepsi drinks though!

For anyone that has a chance to go to the two story taco bell on the vegas strip. I would recommend going. They are pricey but still a fun experience.

Great reaserch and enjoyed watching. I worked at Taco Bell all through high school and even transfered to another Taco Bell when I went to college and stayed an additional year after I graduated college as a shift manager. (1986-1995). I've personally seen some of the changes in the video. Sadly in my personal opinion, the quality has gotten worse but still enjoy every once in a while. They "HAD" great menu items like combination platter #1, #2, , #3, seafood salads, entritos, tostadas, and they used to put black olives green onions on their items. When I started at Taco Bell in 1986, the meat came in raw (we had to cook/season it) and the beans came in raw/hard ( we had to put them in a pressure cooker then drill it where it would have to sit in the walk-in cooler overnight and be reheated the next day). The quick prep (meat was precooked in a plastic bag where we just reheated in the refried beans were dehydrated we just add hot water) was nice when it started for us employees because it made our job easier but the quality taste just was not the same. This video brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing and posting.
