So many people rebutting his point on the earth being a closed system and questioning his validity (as a scientist) instead of trying to understand the point I believe he was making. ‘There is no place to go, no place to throw your trash’, is basically a call to treat our planet with care, we can’t keep brushing issues of waste under the carpet of crust and oceans. We need to treat earth with the seriousness and significance of a permanent residence rather than a ball of rock we can abandon when things get unpleasant. We need to put deep thoughts into how we live our lives because ultimately, the future generations will have to inhabit our consequences, and we have even begun to see some in our lifetime. The earth isn’t a set of clothes we can use and dispose of as we please when we deem it trash. It is our home, our origin. Of great significance, and we should treat it as such.

Everyone’s clowning on Nye because we technically can get to space and to other planets. I know everyone’s speculating Mars right now, but without some serious long term terraforming, you couldn’t support many people there, and the few that did live over there would be miserable. And the technology needed to terraform Mars is way too far off for us to be able to neglect the trash and pollution issues.
