I should develop a consistent routine as I tend to just step up and hit. Sometimes I will take a practice swing if I have a sloping lie just to get a feel of a similar lie.

I certainly hope I haven't been irritating fellow golfers with that routine your just described. I will tee up the ball, take a couple of swings by the ball (not addressing the ball) to make sure I like my stance then walk behind the ball to get a line before I address the ball and swing away. I doubt its 20 seconds in total...

The last time I played as a single I got put with a couple guys with the longest preshot routines ever and if a bird chirped or someone on another hole hit a driver they would start over (and the chances of something happening to warrant starting over increases with the length of the routine). On one of the holes, I teed off first then walked the 50 yards to the washroom, took a dump (not rushing) and made it back in time to see then next guy hit (I guess he heard the door on the washroom close and had to start again). Infuriating but nothing as bad as the average players putting routine. That is where so much time is wasted - walking around looking at it from every possible angle, laying down and dry humping the green, multiple practice putts, repeated marking and cleaning the ball, fixing every pitch mark within 5ft of the line, etc. It would be fine if everyone did all their reading/preshot at the same time but that is incredibly rare these days.

I focus on my alllinmant and club face and path on my pre shot routine . im very quick probably about the same time as you 16seconds but on my short game putting and chipping and pitching I just approach the ball and hit because I already have a lot of feel on my short game in a few weeks time I will only focus on allignmant on ball striking I will have no practice swing unless its in the trees or other then on fair ways

Been working with my daughter she is a junior has lots of power but inconsistent I slowed her swing and shortend it all shots are more consistent straight not as far but off the T box her drives took a hit and are not going good this is where Kay miss hits are happening needed some advise on helping her out thanks for all the vids Matt. LOL, I've done that before ha ha... take a practice swing and then walk back. So that's why when I turn around everyone looks down and to the right lmao!!! I usually do this when I feel very unbalanced at the tee or I feel my shot is going to go left or right lol.
