I did some research when I had a client with it who wanted fashion color. My understanding is that henna only comes in red naturally so in order to make other colors they have to add the terrible ingredients that cause the awful chemical reactions. Also with the lack of regulations for the beauty industry I could see products claiming to be henna when the henna is not a main ingredient.

I’ve been dyeing my hair with red henna before, and bleaching worked well. It’s only if you get stuff like indigo and stuff when it gets dicey, that’s because they have to add metal salts that oxidize with the bleach and cause the reaction. I read that an alcohol rinse can remove most of those metal salts beforehand and make it safer to bleach.

You can color over or bleach hair that has used 100% henna. Henna with indigo will pull green. But I’ve done henna a couple years & it’s difficult to remove but safely possible. I use Blondme with no issues, then tone with ash neutral. No biggie.
