Remember the a350 airbus vs Qatar paint problems? They ordered the maxes when the fight was still going, and they took a lot of S7 airlines 737 MAXes and convert them into Qatar ones, so thats why

my theory is that when they fought with airbus about the a350 problems, they lost trust and looked to Boeing, who didn’t have such problems with Qatar and thus decided to go with the the less problematic option.
also, the planes are ten years old- that’s not *that* old like they still got 5 or 10 years left in them. an average aircraft’s lifespan is like 35 years
