What happens to a person’s body when a submarine implodes?

What is a water implosion and how does it happen?

High-pressure submarine implosion happens when a submarine's (or submersibles) hull succumbs to the intense external water pressure at great depths. As the submarine descends deeper into the water, the pressure exerted on the hull increases significantly. If the hull is not strong enough to withstand this immense pressure, it can collapse inward, causing an implosion.

This implosion can be sudden and catastrophic, resulting in the destruction of the submarine and potential loss of life. The greater the depth of the vessel at the time of the accident the more violent the event will be.

High-pressure submarine implosions highlight the importance of designing submarines with robust hull structures capable of withstanding the extreme pressures encountered in deep-sea environments.

What happens to the human body in the deep ocean of it is not exposed to implosion forces? That’s a question we will answer in another video.

As dark and gruesome as the whole thing is, it's actually comforting to know the passengers didn't suffer and were gone before they even knew what was happening.

I served in U S Navy submarines for 23 years. I knew what this man was talking about before he started. I have listened to some really educated people talk about this. IMO this is the best and easily understood description of what an implosion does. Most people do not mention the heat factor. Nothing left but mushy boiled soup for the sea critters

It's actually comforting to know they were gone before they could feel the pain. I could never imagine it..

It’s crazy to think that, while the crew knew there was something wrong and they were *very* scared, they never really died from their POV as they never noticed or felt anything. It’s as if their mind is in this “standby” mode or something and they’re still trying to figure a way out as far as they’re concerned. It’s hard to explain lol

It's crazy how some creatures can withstand that pressure without having any protective equipment.

Retired US Navy submarine sailor - we had talked about this when I was on active duty (30 years ago).... This is an excellent video. Sir, thanks for sharing - well put together.

It's actually incredible the amount of energy that must have been involved in such a short time. Can't help but wonder what such an implosion would look like if one could see it in person. The logistics of that would be kind of hard given the darkness, but even in the darkness I wonder if you'd actually see a flash of light just from the energy.

Thank you for the video. It was dark, a bit disgusting, but comforting. I was thinking if they felt anything, even just for a moment… but as it turns out, they didn’t even have a chance to realise what was happening when they died. I’m glad for that. I hope the victims’ loved ones know how quick it was, and at least can take some comfort in the fact that their family members and friends didn’t suffer, not even for a single second.

Liquified, this needs to be discussed just like this, I’m tired of people being upset nobody is trying to recover their bodies, when there are no bodies to recover. Needs to be said, needs to be bluntly said as people just don’t get it. I take comfort in the fact that they did not suffer, they did not know what even happened. My heart truly beaks for the 19 year old, who had his life taken so young, they now rest with the souls of the Titanic.

i am the sole survivor of an IED ( Wardak Afghanistan USMC )we hit 300 lbs of explosives. by the luck of God i survived. Friday 13 th Nov 2009. All i can remember from the "hit" was blank white instant light. then woke up much later on. gives me chills. i can only think that they went though was much faster. but i remeber the blank white light . then i was out with no recoloection of how long.. that is the only comparison i can think of to that nightmare. but i felt no pain, until i recovered

My brother trained as a saturation diver. He was told that if he lost air pressure at depth, his suit would collapse and his entire body would be smashed into the brass helmet he was wearing.

Not just cooked and turned to gel but that inner shell was made of carbon fibre that would have shattered in a quadrillion shards (just a guess), hit all that human gel and then been dispersed throughout the area around the implosion in the swift currents. The fact that they found anything biologically human, at all down there after five days of ocean currents is remarkable. Probably caught up on the wiring in the electronics bay that was salvaged.

So they basically disappeared into thin air

I would assume there was slight panic as they did initiate the weight drop, so they knew something was going wrong. Also, in composite shell like implosions, there is usually a sound of something cracking, them the fast implosion. So it’s not an instant failure. Third, Titan did have pressure sensors, so there was most likely an alarm/alert before the implosion.

This video is amazing. You have explained all the answers I was looking for about the Titan implosion and what happened to the lives lost. Thanks a lot for this educational video. Science is amazing if it's explained like this.

I love how this guy explained in the simplest way what happens to their bodies. It's grim but at least we learn stuff.

I was on a research ship that sent cameras down to around 10, 000 feet. The cameras were in special housings built for the pressure. When we brought the cameras back on board, we found one of the pressure housings had failed, and upon opening all that remained of the camera was very fine grained plastic and metal sand.

People are always so amazed by how much force the water puts on you that they forget that even above the water the atmospheric pressure is 14.7 pounds per square inch. Sure that is a lot less but still insane if you think about it.

Humans are always interested in what happens to us when we die or how we die. This is a new way of dying. It’s just being explained well to us. This is a real good thing. As sad as it sounds, it’s very important too. Yes…. It’s good the 5 people aboard had no idea. May God Bless them where they are.

This is really brutal yet fascinating information and given in a direct and understandable way. A lot of people are asking if the bodies will be recovered. They need to watch this video.
