The funniest part is that, of course, the sun isn't combusting, but you can get combustion in a vacuum, just not the traditional way. Now, anyone who studies chemistry would know this right off the top of their head, but if you take a mixture that has its own oxidizer, it wouldn't have to rely on the oxygen in the atmosphere to combust. Potassium permanganate and glycerin is a great example of this. You could literally put it in a vacuum and it would react and combust just fine, because the potassium permanganate is its own oxidizer.
