Another tip for small towns: Go to the library sales, especially the very old libraries! When I was a teenager, one of the school libraries was cleaning out its storage and selling and/or giving away stuff they didn't want. The school was one of the first in our tiny area and that library building, which was originally the one-room schoolhouse, was over 100 years old. There were some old books piled on a table that the librarian told me they were giving away, and she said to take whatever I wanted. I walked away with a full set of good condition Upton Sinclair first editions.

Regarding the sword. Whoaaaa....I've never seen him offer MORE even after the appraisal in order to stay ethical. That's freaking cool. Massive respect gained from that.
