As someone who goes to uni in Melbourne, this is great news.

The main problem is that users just leave then unattended everywhere, blocking footpaths and roads, sometimes even chucking then into the river. Imagine you're a person in a wheelchair and you can't continue to go on the same footpath because a lime scooter is blocking the path. Private scooters will make it home and will not block footpaths, so that's the main reason.
Different issue not being tackled is that many scooter riders do ride very dangerously, doing in excess of 40km/h on shared paths and it should be addressed too.

As an e-scooter rider, I get it. I had the option (my own option) that private owners are better riders, look after their e-scooter (perhaps expressively, babying it due to risk of theft), and are more likely to behave at risk of confiscation of their own property

Whereas in most parts of the UK, theyve gone the other way by banning privtely owned ones and youre only allowed to use the rented ones.

Why are they doing that? Is it another excuse to have only cars on the roads?

I assume this is just for the e-scooters. They also rent e-bikes I assume these will still be fine.

I went to melbourne early last year. It was cool using the bikes and scooters, I was responsible safe user.

However I see why people miss use them, people speed though crossing etc because time continue to tick down.

I saw young 3 guys riding one scooter like that is a very unsafe idea.

Most annoying thing about lime was when you rent the helmet unlocks for use when you start rental. I would use app to find location and walk to, just find no helment. Annoyed because I would need to walk to another. It is fine in Australia if caught riding without one. If I go back I bring my own helment with me.

Why is this a good decision?
Where I live the public transport sucks, and after a certain hour, it's the best way of transport.

I save atleast $60 a week using my scooter instead of my car if not more ?
