The animated ranks you talked about are "Rank Up and Rank Down" Animations.
Like if you have 12.999 your rank will be animated because you are close to 13.000 (You cant instantly jump to 13.000k from like 12.956) You will always go to .999 first.
Same with 13.000k. You wont instantly derank and thats why its animated! Hope this helped :)

I assume many people don't know, because of the comments and other people I know, but the scoreboard scaling is based on damage by default but you can select how it displays the teams based on kills or damage etc. by clicking on the top row for which one you want it to scale by.

The ones with sparkly, fancy looking rank scores means they’re on the verge of ranking up (or down) to the next 1K tier. Both of the opponents with that were at 10, 999 & 11, 999 so that would have potentially been their rank up game.
