I’m here after the Variety interview w/ Villeneuve & James Cameron

The shot @ 2:10 is a homage to Ridley Scott’s BLACK HAWK DOWN 🔥🔥

I'm glad to be living in an age where technology and artistry are at a point where they can really breath life to a story like Dune.

I love the ornithopter designs. I remember reading the novel as a teenager and struggling to picture what one would look like. I remember imagining a dragonfly. This nails it.

From a visual stand point, Ornithopters are so cool. From an engineering stand point, man it must suck to be the mechanics who gotta service them.

There's something so advanced, yet beautifully analog about these ornithopters. As futuristic as they seem, they also look like something that takes defined skills and senses to pilot well.

Paul's utter denial of his destiny early on is a fantastic depiction of how duty-bound to his family he is early on in the book. It's fantastic that they brought that to life so effectively

Whole sequence of leaving Kaladan and arriving at Arrakis was mindblowing in IMAX

The orinthophters are awesome, Paul's discomfort with the manipulation of the peoples belief subtlety conveyed, what a depiction...

It's great to finally see ornithopters fully realized on the screen. The ones in Dune 1984 were ridiculous looking, and the ones in the mini-series were only a little better. These craft look awesome. Thanks for posting this clip.

1:06 Lady Jessica's costume is INCREDIBLE. So much detail

I like how the ornithopters have been designed. In the books the descriptions are quite vague, and the few we're given hints that the wing structures are somewhat bird-like. Yet I always thought that bird-like flapping wing wouldn't be practical especially on a world with a lot of airbourne dust and sand., and it seems Dune Part One's makers felt the same as I did.
A dragonfly/ insectoid design, merged with a helicopter, is a pretty good alternative. What I've seen of the film ( mostly clips) has a very real here-and-now feel to it, and this 'thopter design fits in with that. Denis Villeneuve and his people have done a good job bringing this classic SF novel to life: let's hope Part Two is equally good!

Just a small point... in the books, the Shield Wall is a freakin' *mountain range* that separates the city from the desert. Not a concrete wall about 10 meters tall.

When I read this book at the tender age of eleven back in '65, I realized how grand it all was and wished I could be part of that universe. Seeing this movie in an Imax theater brought it all back to me. I was completely enveloped in this wondrous work of art. Frank Hebert would be enthralled to see his epic story captured so exquisitely.

I love how faithful Denis was to the books. You can really see just how much George Lucas was inspired by Dune through this film. It never felt like a Star Wars film but there are very obvious and plentiful things that you immediately know George Lucas used and altered whether it be the whole sand planet full of spice or the force being inspired from the psychic powers that Paul has

Villeneuve nailed it
Duke Leto is portrayed in the book as a ruler who heavily relied on Propaganda.
And the walk through his army is very Riefenstahl like.
Leto the flashy conquestador.

What I love about Denis' films are how they can effectively display the sheer scale of things

I wish more directors opted for Villeneuve's naturalism and realism instead of cheap overdone kitsch.

Bro the story, along with the acting, lighting, and the series of events, and storyline, litterally make it so fucking realistic somehow.
Whenever you see a movie, you always know its dramatized and sensationlized. You know its a movie, because it doesnt have the same vibes real life has.

But in Dune?? The director deadass made the film feel REALISTIC. Like you actually imagine yourself in it. Its so fucking immersive its insane bruh.

*2021 Ornithopter:* Sleek & practical design inspired by nature and well suited for the environment its in.

Miniseries: Turbine vtol style aircraft thats not very impressive, but does its job.

*1984 Ornithopter:* Block w/ tiny wings.
