Thanks for making this video, I'm a tile Setter in South Florida and I've been commenting on stuff like this to my buddies and stuff for years and here's the proof. This stuff is not waterproof and if waterproof means having to take up the whole floor and reset it after a hurricane or a water heater Bust or whatever it may be, that is not good! Tile on the other hand installed properly would never have to come up because it would get flooded and it would dry out. Most Florida houses are concrete slab. So when people talk to me about how much cheaper it is I'm like no actually it's not it's only if you combine labor and material it's only a couple dollars a square foot off so tile porcelain is still the best choice done correctly and yes if tile is done incorrectly you can get water underneath it also there's a bunch of bad tile guys. But tile is the best choice in Florida I can't tell you how much carpet and wood we ripped out after the 2004 hurricanes. But most of the tile stayed. I rest my case I do not like lvp. To each their own I like facts in this video just kind of proved it.

What about waterproof floor that has been glued to concrete? If say there was some water issues but was cleaned up quickly, would the floor need completely replaced? Or would it be fine?

So would this not have happened if a moisture barrier wasn’t installed? I know some LVP doesn’t require one and wondering if that is an advantage if flooded.

Great video! My laundry machine drainage pipe popped out and the water drained all over my basement floor. I have LVP flooring with a basic plastic (black garbage bag type) underlayment. I removed the trim and drywall behind the trim as it had mold buildup (likely do to the loose drainage pipe spewing water over time). Now as I lift up the LVP I do see a slight bit of water under the LVP and also under the plastic underpayment.

In your video you showed the same and explained over time the moisture under the plastic underlayment will cause mold.

Why would the water not evaporate on its own?

There shouldn’t be any organic material for mold to grow on right? Plastic underlayment and LVP should be non organic right?

Thank you for Your help!

please comment on lifeproof and then floor decor with there cork backing and then concrete slab vs.wood floor with crawlspace as far as having to remove floor or not.

So should you have no moisture barrier under waterproof LVP? Should you SEAL the concrete and just go with the planks or not seal it at all…

Even if it's in the basement over concrete - which is porous?

Nice video, you could slow down a little, as it is hard to understand your words sometimes.
Not a criticism, just a suggestion. You should disclose the cost of uninstalling the floor in a manner that is conducive to salvage. It is a somewhat tedious job, and in my experience, it is a borderline decision whether it is worth the savings to reuse, or just install new. The challenges in re-use, is that the tiny joints on the receiving edge of the plank many times retains pieces of the tongue as it is being seperated, or it is dulled. It is one thing to replace a 6' X 6' section of floor, then there is almost always worth the effort. But, if the insurance is covering the cost, go with new material and a fresh warranty. Great video though, very detailed.

Thanks. So I guess I need to tile my bathroom... not using this junk if the water will seep through the joints.

Does anybody reply( I hope l to comments here? ) My bath linoleum under toilet had a full flush of Thank God plain toilet water. My landlord is a cheapskate and our rent so low, with brandons new expensive economy, we can't afford to move for God knows how long. I run a fan all day in our bathroom, it's connected to our bedroom, the smelly fumey mold smell is isolated to bath, so I keep that door closed. Are we going to have lung damage? I'm pissed. Our hands are tied until we move. Any suggestions? Can I keep a towel under the door so the mold smell doesnt permeate our sleeping area?

I usually add 10% more when I measure. Is that enough, or should I add more?

I can tell you first hand that your warranty will be denied if they detect any moisture on your boards. The 100% waterproof claim is a 100% lie.

They should call it REUSABLE. Not WATERPROOF. Because people think waterproof means it can’t get water under it or thru the grooves. And you just showed that’s not true.

Waterproof flooring is not flood proof. Stop fear mongering. This is an exceptionally brutal situation. Your tile would have been okay true, but in a situation like this insurance should be paying or the person that caused it should be paying. This is not what people mean by waterproof. Do you think it matters when something floods this badly that a few grand of cheap LVP needs to be fixed? I just had a half inch of water on my LVP on a concrete foundation and underneath it and I took off all the thresholds and put space heaters aimed under the flooring in every area. Then I vacuumed up all the flooring in all the cracks and turned the heat up to 90 degrees. It is dry and good to go in 72 hours and all I have to do is put epoxy on the thresholds and glue them back to the concrete. Job done. All is well.
Stop fear mongering. You milked this person because I could have fixed this person's house without replacing the flooring. And if it is new LVP it won't rot, warp, swell, or bow. It will just have guisers when you walk and squirt water from cracks or breaks that are not sealed all the way or on the edges. You can tear up LVP and take the seam apart and then use acetone and take all the tackiness off and then apply a special glue like CA glue but better made for plastics, I forget it's name it is something like polypropylene glue or something, and it will reseal the seams. When you take the plank apart just prop up the LVP with a board about 6 inches so you can put a space heater on low under it and on both sides. I will fix this person's house as long as the material is not swollen and unable to be put back together. Anything else besides swell and damaged material I will fix you joker.

I would like to let you know this is something that could be fixed for a few hundred dollars and 72 hours of methodical and precise work. But since I assume somebody screwed up and insurance is involved you have fun getting your cash bro.
