I made my own cloning "machine" using a one gallon ice cream pail, aquarium aerator, and a quarter inch thick sheet of flexible foam cut in a circle and with with eight slits cut in it in sort of a pie shape. Worked beautifully.

You say in the video about being sterile and how important it is, I agree. So my concern is that you put the clonex in the lid! If you put the unused clonex back into the bottle then you have just contaminated (possibly) the entire bottle with pathogens. Only thing I’d change is this. Dump a tiny amount onto a bit of parchment paper with a fold on it, should be able to roll it to coat all sides. Easy to pitch and can replace easily. This makes it possible to see if a cutting was contaminated it won’t spoil the whole lot.

I've watched a lot of cloning videos, and somehow you're the only one who mentioned lighting! And considering how counterintuitive it is to keep lights on delicate cuttings 24/7, and the fact you want lights on the lowest setting (because nobody even mentions lights at all, I was under the impression you just want passive sunlight, no direct light, the way most cacti like to root), so this was very important information and I'm starting to think other tutorials purposely don't mention arguably the most important part because they don't want the competition or something. It's like teaching someone to box without telling them how to throw a punch...just setting us all up for failure. I always have to ask about lighting in the comments, and I always get different answers (no light, passive sunlight, I've even heard "that doesn't matter" -- which I'm sure it does and is probably why I've failed this whole time). Best cloning tutorial I've ever seen, not only because of what I just explained about lighting, but also how many other great tips there are in it.

I’m convinced nobody gardens better than an addict 😂 that’s a better sterile technique than human surgery. I’m writing everything down for my roses and hydrangeas

If you make your final diagonal cut under water in a shallow bowl there is very little chance of getting air in stem capillaries

On the topic of working clean, I have found that dipping cuts in zerotol at 15ml/gal before sticking them really cuts down on contaminants. I soak my rockwool cubes in the same mix too, but pH adjusted to about 6. I don't even use clone gel or an aero cloner, just wrapped rockwool starter cubes in humidity domes on heat mats. I don't think clone gel is even really necessary tbh because my success rate is still above 99%. For the vast majority of people, their success rate would see the best improvement from learning how to work clean and then to be a stickler about it

Can I recommend doing a simple cloning video to show an even easier way? Cut clone, stick in cup of dirt, water. Doing it this simple way also achieves a high rate of success. No gel, no angles, no other details, just a bunch of cuts and go. Cut it, stick in dirt and pour water into the dirt.

Trim the leaves while it is still on the plant. Wait a day until the cuts are healed shut. Then cut away the clone.

Great video mate👍 very easy to follow & understand that even total beginners can do it 👏👏👏

sterile is important but not as important as getting those cuttings into water after being cut so they dont get air bubbles. I like to use my bloom nutes at .5 ec in a cup with some clonex mixed in lightly. leave my cuttings in the cup for 8 hours, and then go trimming them and putting them in cubes. Ive also found if using plugs, make sure the tip is perturbing out of the bottom. ever so often ill use htg pool shock at 1gram per gal, mixed in my clones soaking solution. sounds crazy but works works works works. I use a dome, i keep the vents closed completed the first 24 hours, then slowly crack them more and more every 24 hours.. by day 5 i got roots busting out

This video needed to be 30seconds long use an aero cloner never lose a cutting 💪

The number 1 top tip is microbes. I haven't lost a seedling in over 10yrs due to using microbes.

Evoponic make a better rooting gel. I’ve had roots in 3days at 28c keep them warm not hot. Don’t let them go cold below 22c. And plagron vitastart is the best product for an explosion of roots. Mist the incubator with it every 2-3 days. If your cutting takes 3 weeks to root throw away it’s stumped for life
Compared to a healthy start

what PH do you rock for your clones?
and do you add any nutrients before the clones have sprouted? :)
thanks :D

I am going to start cloning I have only tried one time I did get it to go in just a solo cup with dirt and it did work I broke a top off and it did take a while but she did root what do you clean the clone with for bugs 🐜 I would never take a clone from someone unless i put it in some kind of quarantine I have had way to many friends do that and ends up bad for that person every time

Biggest surface area = small incisions into the stem parallel to the stem. Even one incision right down the middle of the stem dwarves the surface area of a 45° cut.

Clonex, you'd think they'd know their stuff, advocate for a 30° angle. So faced with all facts, we can safely say that no one really knows what's best.
