According to the report, the neighbors smelled gas over the last few days, but did not contact anyone to report about it. For the love of God, PLEASE call someone if you smell gas. Please don't ignore it.

This is happening more often across the country. It baffles me that first responders respond to a gas leak when in my humble opinion, local gas companies should be the first notified to immediately shut supply to the area of the leak and responders wait until the air is safe through monitoring before ANY VEHICLES or possible ignition source is allowed in the area.

Amazing how briefly they talked about the two people that died

”In Maryland alone, gas explosions have destroyed at least eight homes and three apartment complexes in the past five years.”

You might want to BEGIN the story with reporting that two people died. Not mention it two thirds in as an afterthought.

Never first make a phone call if you smell gas. Get away first, then make the call.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the leak was on the interior!

If the owner or neighbor had informed about the gas leak or smell at the first instance then this incident could have been avoided :( RIP both

Not mentioned: the house was for sale and vacant. The home owners came to visit the house. Most likely, they did something to ignite the gas, say, , turning on a stove or restarting the hot water tank.

A friend's mother's house had a gas explosion in 2008 and the mother died. Lawsuit and they won 4 million from Gas Company due to old unmaintained gas lines going into the home. ( lawyers got biggest cut. 1 brother got 1 million and 2 other siblings got about 70 thousand each) Gas is very dangerous to use in homes and buildings where people live and work.

This reporter sounds way too perky to be reporting on something this bad

So there was a gas company employee there at the exact moment it blew up?

House blown into pieces. The gas may have been trapped in the basement.

Why is this only happening in the east coast?

I will never understand the complacency of smelling gas and not acting immediately.
