Setting up my new mooring in foul weather!

It's raining, super windy and i've never used a mooring before....perfect for me to set my mooring up for my Lugger!!

Well if you;re gonna learn to swim, you may aswell jump in the deep end. The mooring is ready, I have all the parts I need to set it up, so off I go to do just that!

You see the hole on the shackle pin? It's good practice to take a piece of wire through that and round the shackle so it can't come undone: that's why it's there. I would also get some plastic tube (or something similar, I think you can get canvas covers)around the strop where it goes through the bow fitting to stop it chafing. We always found it most convenient to put the pick-up Bouy on the mooring eye, then you can tie that off to something else or wrap the line around the cleat, or extra security.

Glad to see progress is being made, though the inboard end of your strop doesn't look very secure to me.

i had to re visit this video for the mooring setup, couldnt work out where to fix the pick up bouy, and also this year using a swivel so had to wor out where i actually need to put it.
looking back if you left that blue line on your pickup bouy maybe thats why it went walkabout 24/4/24

The Blue boat behind you looks like a Drascombe Drifter, 22' it's their biggest "cruiser".

I meant to ask if you have looked at Videos by Roger Barnes? I think he may be President of the Dinghy Cruising Assoc, he's published a book about dinghy Cruising and he posts a lot of videos that might inspire you, offer practical advice or just entertain. He used to write a column in Dinghy Magazine on Dinghy Cruising which is ow I found him.
