How to use a VALUE SCALE to IMPROVE YOUR ART

Learning how to use a value scale will help improve your art and increase the realism. Too many times I've seen some potentially good drawings be let down by poorly judged and inaccurately rendered tonal values. Our brains quickly learn to understand how light interacts with objects around us as a survival mechanism: that dark patch on the ground could be just wet soil or a deep pit to fall down! So in order to successfully draw realistic tones and values, we need to recreate real tones and values! To do that convincingly, we have to fool the brain. That's what realism is all about!
