Can't believe you guys are asking this but... YES I do have insurance as its a legal requirement and Hermes check you do before your allowed to start working (or at least my manager did!)

Also, I made this video before my first pay check on what I had been told. watch my recent video to see in my past 3 pay checks It states my average pay per parcel is 75-85p. The job is so worth it and when I work out how much I earn an hour *after minusing petrol* its £11 to £15 a shift!!!!

I’ve just quit Hermes after 5 years, I was like you once and loved it but things are getting worse. You’re probably best off as you are as I was a round holder 6 days a week and had very little flexibility. It sounds like you’ve got a great manager too which helps a lot!

Be careful where you are located. I had a rural round like this that was very relaxed, and easy. Then I was relocated to the city- it was a nightmare.
You'll spend a lot of your time waiting at traffic lights on foot and in the car.
The locations are less intuitive (you'd be surprised how hidden some entrances are in busy towns, even with google maps).
Then you don't have the luxury of parking in front of the house. You have to park a few minutes walk away at the nearest available stopping point, and then trek back to your car, pick up a heavy package, then trek back to another flat that's next door because you couldn't hold all the packages. Then you have to walk up several flights of stairs (I hiked up a mountain last weekend, took me 3 hours, and that was easier than the hundreds of stairs you have walk up), AND since no one is ever home, you'll have to wait at the door to the flats and ring each neighbour until someone answers and lets you in. After which you'll get back to your car with a ticket on it.
This isn't even taking into account their terrible courier app. It's meant to optimise the routes for you, and it was fine in the rural/suburban areas, but for some reason the city route made no sense, constantly having me going around in circles.

I am not sure how things seem to differ between the Hermes drivers. In all the years the Hermes has delivered to me not once has the driver knocked on my door. The only way I know they have been is when I get a card through the door saying 'Sorry we missed you.' There was one time when I was expecting a parcel containing over £100 worth of perfume. Again no one knocked on my door and to make things worse the package was left on the ground floor stairs to my apartment building. They sent me a picture of the location of the parcel. When I went downstairs to collect it was gone! I complained bitterly to Hermes and their stock answer was 'Contact your supplier and they will give you are refund.' So now I check very carefully to see if whoever I order from uses Hermes as a courier, if they do I avoid them like the plague. I realise this is nothing to do with this young lady but I felt I had to share my experiences with this dreadful company.

really happy for you but something about this just seems really unprofessional. Not you, but the fact that all of this, only 10 years ago, would have been expected to have been loaded into a company branded quality van, built for the purpose. Yet now, somebody with a '107' is doing deliveries. As I say, its not a slight against you but rather all these cheapo firms that just don't want to take up the costs of a proper delivery outfit.

It is really great to see hard-working young people, but please don't leave your keys in the ignition or your car unlocked you are asking for mega trouble. Wish you all the best and good luck👍🙂

I notice you left your cars keys in the ignition. I would not recommend that; I know a few delivery drivers whose cars were stolen along with all the parcels.

Your not factoring in wear and tear on your car...This is where the company makes a lot of profit, because they not using a company vehicle..Take tax and depreciation, and wear and tear, I guarantee you will be under minimum wage.

But it's not just petrol cost, what about car insurance? it must be massive due to it being commercial use and carrying goods. Car deprecation and more wear and tear on the car all also need to be factored in.

I was thinking £40 for 3 hours.Pay for own fuel and wear and tear on the car.3 hours of fuel is more than £10 now more like £20 and with wear and tear on car for 3 hours is say £2 considering depreciation due to milage and then the extra cost of the business insurance which is I imagine £20 more a month so another £1 a shirt, that's £40 for 3 hours then, minus £23 costs leaves me with £17 so about £5.66 p/h.Advice to young people do get a bucket and window cleaning gear and a ladder, watch some YouTube videos knock on a few doors earn £20 per hour, much much easier, choose own hours

Why do you think Jermies wants you to use the vehicle you "keep" as your method of conveyance, have to maintain YOURSELF etc etc?..

Not so great in Winter when it's dark and raining. What if you need the loo mid shift? Bad idea to miss out on food and drink. Not convinced that work is always available - there must be times when couriers are available with insufficient parcels for all of them, otherwise they would just pile up under the law of averages. There are other costs of wear and tear on your vehicle, eg clutch, tyres. You seem a grafter but I think you could find a better job.

60 parcels, you won't even get £30 for that, then less petrol, and with the time scanning and loading up, you have probably worked off about £6 per hour if you are lucky.

Petrol is not the only cost, wearing out the car basically working for nothing
