Fantastic video. I've just got a static caravan to start almost of grid living in a small field surrounded by woods on my dads farm. BT always give us their old poles when they replace the ones in are fields so a more in-depth video about pole building would be fantastic, thanks.

I don't know if you know this but you got a mention in the Property section of Saturday's (25th August) Daily Telegraph. They had a feature on off grid living which i am not going to recommend to your viewers as it was featuring properties for sale from £220K to £1.8million! Anyway you were mentioned along with your YouTube videos.

Thanks for this recommendation series - good books never go out of style, be it "inspirational" or "instructional" ones, even today, with the Youtube-academy and all. 🍻

Seriously Max I wish you had a programme on the Discovery channel! They have shown some very good pioneering shows over the years and your knowledge would be invaluable to many people!
There is a program about ‘Wilderness people’ in Alaska OMG what THEY have to survive through in winter like -25o 😳But fundamentally the same as your concepts. Just been online to buy these books👍🏻
I had a hippy Sherpa i built out of a panel van and a load of parts from scrapped caravans on ebay! Luxury. 😉

Because of you, I'm going to build an off grid Passiv House!
I hope you continue making off grid videos, you should look at upgrading your house to a Passiv House and remove your central heating system

I have a copy of Shelter. It is a big book. You could plonk it on your head to make, well, a shelter.

Centre for Alternative Technology used to stock some fantastic books. Perhaps they still do! :)

Have enjoyed the book reviews - most informative. I don't know if you're going to do one on furniture, but even if you don't I urge you to get hold of a copy of this book. I have owned a very early edition for decades, and find it endlessly interesting. The thing is, just because the stuff is nomadic, doesn't mean you have to take it apart - ever. I reckon you'd enjoy this book : Nomadic Furniture 1: How to Build and Where to Buy Lightweight Furniture That Folds, Collapses, Stacks, Knocks Down, Inflates or Can Be Thrown Away

My first book arrived - Pole Building looks amazing :))) need some woodland now) Guys at work very supportive so Im going to buy an old van and start stockpiling timber, broken machinery I can mend, and raiding recycling yards! Where I work deliveries arrive stacked on brand new timber dunnage, they throw it in a skip, what a waste were so lucky to get FIVE acres for your price - today ONE acre is £18, 000 :(( Im going to do this SOMEHOW! Thanks to you and your channel - a more methodical, detailed and helpful person I have yet to come across!

It is worth researching Walter Segals method... Featured in the first series of grand designs... Stock sized timber... Similar to the pole system.. modular.. Keep it simple...

Hi Marcus, been watching your stuff for a while now, and at the mo I have got plenty time to watch again, so while watching this I wondered have you ever considered a Q and A, just a hi, what do you wanna know, think right now you wouldn't be able to answer them all.

So basically a frame building then. A very ancient method of building. The Chinese just balanced their buildings without piles sunk into the ground, to help prevent destruction from earthquake. Also had flexible joinery. It works
