"Every morning is beautiful. You're just too young to know it!" Damned right, Gloria!

Gloria Swanson wrote all her own dialogue for this film. She also delivered the last line of the film. This was her first movie in twenty-two years. She explained, "I was holding out for a picture I could take my grandchildren to see, something exciting and contemporary without senseless violence."

"Miss. Swanson, what is the secret of your eternal youth? I will not eat poison food, I don't like it' She was such pioneer of healthy eating, she knew the dangers of poisonous food decades ahead of her time.

Gorgeous woman. Even in her 80s she was striking. Those eyes, that million dollar smile and cheekbones.

Its a bit Dark that she names her two friends as Carole Lombard, and Grace Moore. Two stars who died in plane crashes!

It's a funny inside joke that she says the pilot of her plane was Cecil B. DeMille when as Norma Desmond she said the iconic line "Mr. DeMille I'm ready for my closeup."

Epic!!! Love her. This movie is a timeless gem 💎 she actually flew in a Fokker Dr.I in 1917..

Filmed May 1974 simultaneously with Earthquake, hence Charlton Heston and George Kennedy were juggled between sets. Gloria Swanson looks better here playing herself at 75 than she did in Sunset Blvd. aged 50. Ironically this film was released Oct. 18th, 1974 even though it was called Airport '75.

Swason is great playing a fantasy version of herself

Anyone notice it's Linda Harrison aka Summerland from planet of the apes as Nova. Charlton Hestons love interest but now Heston has Karen Black. This is almost a first speaking role I've seen for her and it's incredibly mind blowing.Such a figure hiding in the business suit. I was only able to recognize her by her beautiful brown eyes behind the brown hair put up. Wish I could see her now.

The best part of all those disaster movies is the spoof versions that continue to amuse us. How many of us can quote lines from Airport '75 and how many can quote lines from Airplane (and sequel)?
Too bad they didn't get Gloria Swanson for a cameo in Airplane

The makers of the movie originally hoped to get Greta Garbo for the part, playing herself, but had to be satisfied with Swanson. It's funny to watch her wax lament over her old Hollywood days in front of Myrna Loy, of all people, who could all but do the same thing. Loy always looks so unimpressed with the "ingenue" in a movie whose beauty is just so stunning, or with Swanson in this instance. She just seems to say, been there, done that.
Funnier still, Joan Crawford was wanted for the Myrna Loy part, initially. Joan Crawford and Sid Ceasar? I can't help but think they wanted someone else for Ceasar's role.
