Creating an Ancestor Altar With Limited Space or on a budget!
.
An ancestor altar can be created no matter how large or small your space is. First, you’ll need a clean place for your altar to rest. This can be a small table, a drawer, or you can use a box where you store all the items and take them out when you want to light a candle and make an offering. Place your items on top of the altar cloth. This will help to invite your ancestor into the space. Ensure you add items representing the four elements (earth, air, fire, and water). To represent the element of fire, use a simple white candle. The color white is helpful for inviting spirits into your sacred place. You can also add foods or sweets your ancestor may like. It’s nice to add some seasonal fruit to the altar every once in a while or maybe a cigar. Ensure your libations or water is in a glass. If you do decide to add names or photos, make sure you have healed any ancestral burdens or disruptions before doing so.
Your ancestor altar is where you can often go to commune with your guides and establish a deeper relationship with them. Creating an altar is the first big step in building a relationship with your ancestors that can last a lifetime.
The more you commune with them, the more insight you will develop on what the Ancestors would like on their altar.
Keep your altar neat and clean. Dust and refresh the water regularly. If you decide to add flowers, ensure that you dispose of old ones outside in nature. If you offer your ancestors food, do not let it grow mold. You don’t want anything rotten or moldy on your altar, particularly if you’re honoring a super tidy relative!
These are tips that I’ve found helpful on my journey! Ultimately I ask that you do what resonates with your spirit.
