I got a $60 office chair at staples and all it did was lean back and have a tall enough back to rest my head on. It was the most comfortable chair and I used it for 19 year and threw it out because the butt area went flat. It was a mistake I should have had it redone. I bought a more expensive chair with more adjustable everything chair and ended up in the ER after 2 years cuz it was so uncomfortable and poorly built... Now I got a $107 chair from staple that actually comfortable (but more cheaply built than my original $60 chair...) and I tried all of the chairs even the more expensive ones and im sticking with the cheapo perfect chair.

I feel like there has been a tremendous decline in the quality of all kinds of chairs and a huge increase in price. If you get your hands on a a "cheap" desk chair from the 90s, unless its completely worn down, it will probably be much more comfortable than those today. And also larger and more sturdy. But the core problem seems to be that very cheap, thin foam and padding is used today, while older chairs had thicker, denser foam, or even small springs. A genereously upholstered chair may need some individual adjustment, but is unlikely to cause constant neck / back / knee pain. Today's chairs (and clothes) tend to he undersized, under-upholstered, and overpriced.
